IV Cocaine vs. Smoked Crack Cocaine

I apologize if a moderator needs to move this; I usually post on TDS but that's more for support, and you can't be too careful w/ posts potentially triggering.

That said, I've read several BLer's post IV cocaine produces a similar or near identical sensation as smoked crack cocaine. I've no experience w/ the latter, but more than I'd like to admit w/ the former. To be direct, I'd like the opinion of BLer's w/ experience w/ both (preferably extensive, yet all are welcome to weigh in) for a compare/contrast. I'm familiar w/ the risks of IV cocaine, but not smoked crack cocaine (aside from the general consensus on its instantaneous gripping addiction). Does one risk similar addiction by IV cocaine use? Or are they only similar in effect, or high? Any harm reduction for either drug and method of ingestion is also welcome.

all I have to say about IV cocaine use is that it is soooooooooooooo much better than snorting it. You get a completely different high. Of course shooting it with heroin makes it a million times better. I must have missed in my hand a couple times though over the weekend because now my right hand is puffed up life a balloon, its red and hotter than hell. I am very very scared. I can't move it or do anything. I know I should go to the hospital but what would I say??? I a really embarrassed. I shouldn't be but I am. What should I do? I've been icing it constantly but it doesn't help with the swelling

I've missed a number of speedballs. Depressing. However, I never hit my hand, I always find something on my arm. But if it has persisted for day, especially if it's become worse, I'd put aside the shame and make your hand the priority.

I prefer IV cocaine by far, smoking it just isn't my thing.....i found i can get a stronger rush by injecting. but beware, it's dangerous, and crashing blows< - >( ha ha )

Can;t speak much for smoking crack but IV coke is like whoaaaa so damn good it;s a whle different drug.

I've never smoked crack, but all I can say towards this is don't, if you haven't already.

It's easier to put down the dope than the needle.

Its nice to see everyone agrees that the rush of injecting coke is so much better of a high. I'm outa veins though. this morning I went for a vein on the top of my foot. YES on the top of my foot. :/ and apparently I missed because I have a huge bump now where I injected it and it's completely numb. It didn't hurt going in so I thought I was okay and in the vein. I'm outa options on my arms. Does anyone have any suggestions on good veins?

I'm very worried about you, Tracy. You've started a lot of threads about how you are having trouble hitting veins, and now you've missed a shot in your hand and your foot. Redness/soreness/swelling/heat are all signs of infection - please get to a hospital ASAP, you are at risk of developing an abscess, or blood poisoning, or losing your hand. Swelling up like a balloon is not normal and needs to be checked out by a doctor!

Read this when you get back:

Veins on your arms are the safest; anywhere else has a higher risk of complications. Your feet are particularly prone to infection and thrombosis (including DVT). Anywhere else is going to involve either very fragile veins, or deep large veins which have a severe risk of complications (life threatening sepsis, losing your leg, thrombosis etc). I really think you need to consider whether you can continue to IV safely; is it really worth risking your health, or losing a limb, or your life, just for a slightly better high?

If you are determined then all I can say is I don't advise it at all, but check out a vein map (google it), make sure you are well hydrated and warm, and have a good feel. Often there are veins in the arms which we can't see but we can feel; it takes a while to get the knack but these are often the best.

I am also wondering about your IV technique if all your arm veins are gone - some people like myself just have terrible veins, but others do unnecessary damage due to poor technique. Do you use a fresh needle every time (even if you miss) and do you rotate your sites?

Yes, it might be a fact that IV cocaine has a better rush than smoking it (but not enough to justify the extra damage IMO) but you are disregarding the comments people are making about the potential for addiction, and IVing stimulants is one of the most damaging things we can do to our veins - the stimulant causes vasoconstriction, making it even harder to hit them, so more damage is caused trying to find a vein.

Please read this IV technique and complications thread, and this case studies thread before you go anywhere near yourself with a needle again..

I know how addictive IVing can be, even the act itself, and I'm not trying to lecture you at all - I am just really worried about you
