Misc IV and low BP

This sort of dates back to a previous thread a while ago, not strictly related.

I have problem registering a vein on the very odd occasion I shoot anything. Not a common occurrence but I have a really low BP much of the time from using tizanidine or clonidine in fairly large doses.

I KNOW how to IV, so I don't need a lesson in correct technique or how to find veins, I know where they are, what to do with them and how to do it.

Short of a rapid and short acting pressor, any ideas as to how to overcome this issue? I can be in a vein, but often will not register, even when quite certain I am in the vein and ready to push down the plunger of the syringe being used.
 
If you're quite sure that your inside a vein, then go ahead and push the plunger. You may not be registering because of your notoriously low blood pressure, which would make it more difficult for blood to enter your syringe.

Also, tie off a belt really tight and flex your arm muscles hard a few times, they should pop out and make it easier (if you're not already doing this).

Try a different vein, like in your hand, foot, thigh, etc. Taht can sometimes be more effective

I tied off, I always lift weights for a short time prior to IVing anything, to make them stand out.

It seems sometimes when I'm in a vein, even drawing back on the syringe carefully won't make me register. Damn hard to tell...last time, it took something like 14 times before it would do so, in between which I ended up SCing something in alchol solution....which hurts, I'll tell you that for nothing!

And I am not shooting anywhere else but the crook of my arm, not a chance.
 
This may sound funny, but I had a girl who had the same issue. After I tied her off, I'd have her pinwheel her arm a few times as hard as she could to force blood past the tie-off from the centrifugal force. After she stopped pinwheeling, the blood would remained trapped and her veins would present.
