Okay I have always been curious about this since I heard the motley crew story. After some person told me it wasn't possible...well it just made me really curious.
So legally drunk for drunk driving is around .1% Blood alcohol level. Sure this isn't drunk off your ass but it is probably a good start. Now the average human body (presumably you can be more accurate by adjusting this for weight) has about 5 liters of blood in it. Multiply this out I get .1% of your bodies blood is about 5ml.
So one would need to IV about 5cc of pure ethanol to get that drunk..or about the same amount of 191 proof shit..but I don't know if the additives are bad to inject. Yes I realize this is kinda dumb but I am still curious. Has anyone actually done this?
I presume someone on this board has injected GHB.

honestly, i wouldn't waist my time with injecting alcohol. alcohol is ok for catching a buzz, but getting shit drunk, fuck, "it only gets you high enough to bring you down"
Tool is coming to my little ass town! hell yes
I remember watching some behind the music thing about some 80's band, and a guy was talking about how his band got so low they injected alcohol, so you can do it. i would just get an iv and inject the highest proof you can find.

I rolled at Tool last Tuesday, it was great.
Anyway, it was either on a Steve-O video or Jackass, but he went in and got a nurse to hook him up to an alcohol drip and rolled it into a bar, pretty funny. If a nurse did it, it's bound to be somewhat safe under sterile conditions, heh...

Yeah, Mötlëy Crüe, like he was saying.
And uh.. they're probably not the best example to follow as far as substance abuse goes.
Personally, I really don't think I would mess with injecting alcohol. Something tells me putting it straight into your veins would probably be pretty painful.

Yeah, I'm going to go see them next Saturday.

If you miss the vein you are fucked. Rxlist.com has an entry for ethanol, and its injected only for its neurolytic effects. Also, the amount injected to produce these effects is far less than the amount needed to feel any CNS effects.
"Dehydrated Alcohol Injection, USP consists of not less than 98% by volume of ethanol (ethyl alcohol). Dehydrated alcohol is hypobaric in relation to the cerebrospinal fluid. It is injected proximate to nerve tissues and into spinal subarachnoid spaces to produce degeneration of nerve function (neurolysis) for control of chronic pain."
But anyways, its alcohol. If you wanna get drunk fast, a couple of shots of everclear will have you on your ass in no time. This is what I would imagine IV administration to be like. You would probably just puke and be dizzy as shit. Do some keg stands, get a beer bong, etc, any of these will get you buzzed quickly.

Off topic i know , but all this "I'm going to see/ i just saw" Tool is KILLING me!
On-topic, have you SEEN that guy from Motley Crue? What a fucking loser!

Yes you can IV alcohol and beat the breatherlizer test. If any one has seen the SteveO video he does this and his doctor goes into detail about the dangers of an IV alcohol drip. It's pretty cool to see what it does to you though. They put about 5 shoots in a bag and place it on a pole & run an IV drip to SteveO. After about 15 minutes he begins to feel the effects. He then goes to a local bar with the IV still attached. He pushes the pole with the bag up to the bar & orders more. He looked like he was going to die. Keep in mind that he had a doctor watching him when thos was going on. Personally I wouldn't try this. It is pure stupidity at it's finest. Doing this is asking for trouble. If your looking to just get a more pure alcohol then drink everclear grain. Put the vodka & the needle down. It's not worth it...

Just two quick points. First of all you won't beat the breathalyizer using this method. It wouldn't be a very reliable indicator of BAC if it just estimated your BAC by what residue was left in your mouth. It would then just check whether you drank alot of water afterwards.
Actually since alcohol is so volatile it actually evaporates from your blood into your lungs so presumably it would do so even from an IV injection.
Also it is my understanding that if you OD on methanol they actually hook you up to an ethanol drip. Has to do with methanol being processed by the same enzyme as ethanol to something which is unhealthy.
Finally I really doubt you could fail to notice missing a vein with 5ccs. That was essentially my only question. I have never shot more than a cc at a time at what point do you start pushing the barrier of IV w/o a shunt or drip.

Actually... well here's an article about a kid who was hooked up to an alcohol IV. I ganked it from the media forum. They posted a link, but I didn't feel like clicking it to get the source of this. Just search for the article in the media forum if you want to know.
Check out this kids blood alcohol level. To tell you the truth, I was actually born with a .61 so I'm actually more hardcore than this kid. I mean, I'm not saying this kid isn't hardcore or anything. I'm just saying that since I was born with a higher level, I'm more hardcore than him.
...
A 7-year-old Louisville boy was in stable condition last night at Kosair Children's Hospital, according to his mother, after being admitted Saturday with a blood-alcohol level of 0.59 percent -- more than seven times the level at which a person is considered drunk under Kentucky law.
Police say the boy's stepfather, Chris Harmon, had fed him vodka through a medical feeding tube in the child's abdomen. Charged with first-degree criminal abuse, Harmon, of the 900 block of Ash Street, was being held yesterday in the Jefferson County Jail.
''It's shocking,'' said Louisville Police Sgt. Jeffery Moseley of the Crimes Against Children Unit. ''I don't think anybody (in this unit) has ever seen a bloodalcohol level in a child that was that high.''
Yesterday afternoon, police said, the boy's blood-alcohol content remained at 0.20 -- still more than double the 0.08 level at which someone is considered drunk.
Officials at Kosair Children's Hospital would not release the boy's condition, saying officials from the state's Child Protective Services agency were involved.
Mike Jennings, a spokesman for the state agency, said late yesterday that he had no information on the case.
The boy's mother, Cherie Glover, said yesterday that her son was conscious -- but seemed different.
''He would laugh a little and then just cry and cry,'' she said in an interview yesterday afternoon outside the Jefferson County Hall of Justice, where she'd gone to seek an Emergency Protective Order against Harmon. She alleged that her husband had abused her sporadically in the two years they'd been married.
Jefferson County Coroner Richard Greathouse, who is a pediatrician, said that at 0.59, the blood-alcohol level of Glover's son would have been almost double the amount considered fatal, especially for a child. He said he's seen children die with levels of 0.3 or 0.4, but never in his 28 years as coroner has he seen a case in which a child had such a high blood-alcohol level.
''That's just a whopping amount,'' Greathouse said. ''It's totally, totally outrageous.''
Many people lose consciousness when their blood-alcohol level reaches 0.3. For inexperienced adult drinkers, a blood-alcohol level of 0.35 or 0.4 can be lethal, Greathouse said. Adults who abuse alcohol develop a tolerance, but even for them, 0.5 would usually be a lethal dose, he said.
With a 0.59 blood-alcohol level, the child would likely have suffered damage to his kidneys, heart and central nervous system, Greathouse said. ''He would have very, very severe brain damage from the effects of that amount of alcohol,'' he said. ''The damage on a 7-year-old child would be double or triple that in an adult.''
Alcohol affects people differently, depending on age, sex, weight, health, duration of drinking, and the amount of food and any drugs consumed at the same time. So it's not possible from the blood-alcohol level alone to know how much alcohol the boy ingested.
But according to standard formulas used by police and government agencies, a typical man weighing 150 pounds would have to drink 25 shots containing 1 ounce of 96-proof liquor, or 20 beers, in one hour to have a blood-alcohol level as high as the boy's 0.59.
Glover said yesterday that she and her husband both had been drinking at their Germantown home on Saturday; he'd started drinking at 10:30 a.m., she said.
Around 6 p.m., she said, she went to her son's room after her husband yelled to her from there, saying something was wrong.
''I saw him and his eyes were dancing,'' she said of her son. ''And his pupils were fully dilated.''
She said her husband told her that the boy wasn't breathing, and she called 911 and frantically began doing chest compressions. Emergency Medical Services arrived and took the boy to the hospital, where medical personnel were able to bring him to consciousness, she said.
Police arrested Harmon at Kosair later the same evening, Moseley said, adding that investigators found ''indications of alcohol abuse'' at the house.
Glover said her son was born with a rare condition known as Vacteral syndrome, a cluster of birth defects that can affect the vertebrae, anal area, limbs, esophagus, and heart and liver function.
She said the boy, who has a tracheal tube and is fed through a gastrointestinal bag, couldn't sleep without special medication. But she said they'd stopped buying the medication recently, after Passport, the statesponsored health care program she used, stopped paying for it.
Without the medication, she said, her son would scream and cry through the night.
Glover said her husband worked construction jobs occasionally but had only worked two days this month. He had been caring for the boy full time while she worked a late shift at Ryan's restaurant on Preston Highway, she said, adding that she recently quit her job out of concern that Harmon would harm her son and her two other children, ages 10 and 4, from another relationship.
Neighbors said they never noticed any problems. Patrick Stokell, who lives two doors down from the couple, said they often talked of how much they loved children and wanted to adopt.
''All I know is that they're really crazy about children,'' he said. ''I find it hard to believe this could happen.''

Jesus soviet that is depressing as hell. They couldn't afford the childs medication so the man (no doubt without the aid of a caluculator or appropriate BAC levels etc..) uses alcohol through the trachial feeding tube.
Dear god!!
Are you sure this isn't some crazy myth?

I hate to say I laughed when I thought of a little kid drunk off his ass. HAH, that'd be GREAT to see...uhm...yeah...just kidding.

That story is so sad.....
Anyway IV alcohol is only for dumb shits, you will probably end up feeling very ill. just drink straight whiskey, you probably will give up before it kills you.
Please stop this talk about tool though....they did not come to greece and it really pisses me off. I have never been so into a band as tool since led zeppelin for gods sake. but seriously ENJOY your concert..

The unfortunate child in that story did not get the alcohol IV, the article says:
had fed him vodka through a medical feeding tube in the child's abdomen Sounds like a PEG or percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube, which goes into the stomach.

IMO, I think that if your considering IV'ing some booze, you should at least try an enema first, yea I know it sounds nasty and stuff and I would never try it, but I would assume that it would be a little safer than IV'ing the stuff.
I dunno, I just though id throw in my two cents. I was listening to Bob and Tom the other day and they were talking about wine enemas and thats why I suggested it.
