It's SO cold!

I can't remember the last time we had a cold spell in Manila. We had a fiendishly hot summer this year (and it had been escalating for the past several years! ). It was so hot my plastic CD cases in the car would shrivel up in the noonday heat, and we had to have the aircon perpetually on high or suffer something close to heat stroke. (Electricity bills skyrocket tremendously during the summer months...bad).:!

Now it's sooo cold (well, to us tropical denizens anyway!) and I LOVE IT. I love this cooler weather. I love sleeping with the windows open , feeling the cool air, sometimes not even needing the fan. (Everybody here has an electric fan in each room ;)) According to an acquaintance's priest friend who just came from freezing Sagada (in the north part of my country) "The melting ice north of the Philippines is flowing our way . Manila may feel it this month until February." w00t!

While we're all loving this coolness, I can't help thinking about summer...I hope it won't be the complete opposite of the weather now! (there I go again...thinking of the worst that can happen weatherwise!) Please God, dont let our summer be unbearable because of this unexpected blessing.

(Probably hot to you Westerners...but you have to realize, this is the closest we have to winter! ;))

Is that celcius?

We're in a warm spell right now, and it will be getting up to +4 as the week's peak temp. You're sitting pretty well on the upper end of what I would consider comfortable in a dry climate. I'd probably still be drowning in my own sweat.

I'd hate to be there when it was hot out :)

Hahahahha. You made my day! You are posting again! Fantastic.

As for the weather, I love it with the extra heavy monsoon this year but many are suffering down heare as well as places like Samar, etc. Landslides, deadly floods, etc. Fun in the Philippines.

Dave, yup its celsius. Summers here can reach up to 95 degrees fahrenheit, with 100 percent humidity. Insane. So you can imagine how comfortable it is for us now. Rach...yup my very first post! Yeah while we are enjoying monsoon weather, I do worry a lot about landslides and awful floods in the provinces....

Insane, but still something to experience. I'm sure that it would feel interesting to be swimming in air as it were. Plus I'd love to spend a season somewhere during a monsoon. I love rain.

You should try some bitter, dry cold sometime. It's an experience. Air that feels like glass; sun so bright and reflecting off of every surface with a shocking intensity; the dull, muted silence during and after a heavy (but calm) snowstorm; the brightest stars you'll ever see, for more hours a night than the sun is above the horizon.

The aurora.

Yeah, I think I like the winter. :)
