It's October - I don't think it's too early to start a christmas thread

Roast potatoes can turn the dreariest of situations round, to be fair, although there's never enough. I would happily skip turkey, sprouts, sausages, mash, yorkshire pud, trifle and so on for three courses of roast tatties and gravy.

God this made me hungry, I only had soup for tea :)

I knew a girl, related to pierce Brosnan as it happens, who only ever ate bread and potatoes. Nothing else at all.

With any roast, I think the best mouthful is the little scraps of meat veg potatoes and gravy all mixed together that you get left on your plate at the end. You'd miss the rest if you didn't have it Kock I reckon :) Can/do you cook?

I've tried to make trifle 3 times in my life, but each time it's been awful. I never realised something so simple could go so wrong, maybe its the kind of thing you need to watch a grandma make, only I never had a grandma and my mum's not english enough to make it damn her.

I don't mind Christmas coming this year somehow, I'll just ignore it as much as I can till it's here then make the most it.

Worst thread ever. And I like christmas..

People who shop for christmas in October are daft. It's not christmas without rushing around on the 24th of december still picking up a few things.
don't tempt me . i'm tired of getting bitten on the bum by christmas;this year i'm going to embrace it with a big bear hug. the only gear free christmas i've had in the last 10 years was during that drought.

Isn't Babycham just pear cider? I've drank pear cider before so fuck it, why not.

Twinkling lights on a pine scented tree, mistletoe, ivy, gold sprayed pine cones and ruby poinsettias in doors, cinnamon scented candles and a real fire on the go. Cosy jammies, home baked fruit cakes, mince pies and warming winter soups. Full xmas dinner and best ever - the leftovers. Chocolates and champagne and silliness. Advocat snowballs and my seasonal punch

Presents don't matter, that bit has died a death in our house, its token gestures. Important stuffs are roast potatoes, cranberry sauce and pigs in blankets, they matter much. Oh a fluffy slippers :)

Best bit is lazy husbands, sons and family who find their way here to laze it out with us.

I <3 xmas but I won't be talking about it again until 15th Dec.

Kate that pic of fairy lights you posted wrapped around the glass paperweights has really stuck in my mind. I've been a bit obsessed about paperweights ever since, I've always had a thing for glass, but they never come up at car boot sales or charity shops, I guess they're worth too much. If you get a chance I'd like to see more pics of the weights but I know you're busy. One day maybe :)

Felix has many - there's bloody hundreds of them that my dad left to after he died. I'm very fond of them and have my favourites holding piles down at work. I'll ask him to look some pics out, he takes great photos of things like that.

So far I've not got caught by the collectors bug!

In return can we more picks of your girls?

xxx I'm off to be - have started yawning now 4 mg later :-I

I didn't do christmas last year, I even worked christmas day and boxing day. I wasn't in the mood at all for it last year and don't really think I'm in the mood this year either, it's all a load of commercial crap, I don't need society to tell me when I should buy presents for people or when it is a good time to go and see people, I can do that whenever I choose.

My mum and sister want me to go over and see them in california this christmas with my dad, I might go over there, might be fun. I'd rather go in January though when presents are cheaper.

Even if you don't buy into the present side of things it's still a nice time of year for family to get together and have a nice meal and a few drinks.

I knew back in October last year that I would be working christmas day, so that was out of the question anyway last year, also, not sure why people think that they need an excuse to have a family meal, seems silly, family meals can be any day of the whole year, why wait until christmas for it??

And severing your ties to the wellspring of manhood? For Babycham?

You'd miss the rest if you didn't have it Kock I reckon :) Can/do you cook?
[you called me Kock :sus:]

I'm sure I'd miss the rest but the feeling wouldn't sink in until an hour or two after the flavour of the roasties had dissipated.

Can I cook? Do I cook? Were you asleep during the Knockanpizza era?

I actually love cooking, it's one of my vices. There's nothing I like more than spending a day in the kitchen with a couple of bottles of wine and a military plan for dinner. And a pile of dissociatives, they add a certain je ne sais quoi. The sad thing is I rarely have the opportunity, cooking for one is just not the same :( Shut it Spade before you even start :p

So why are you considering seeing your family at Christmas when you could have gone any day of the year?

Its an excuse to force people to get together and celebrate having each other just as much it is a christian festival, like weddings and funerals. People just let life get in the way, me included.

The only reason I'm considering going at xmas is because my dad has chosen to go at christmas too, and it would be nice to be with my mum, dad and my sister all at the same time, if my dad was going over in february I'd consider going over then.

I agree as it happens, its just that people seem motivated at christmas, like your dad. I'm told for the Americans Thanksgiving is more important to be with family than Christmas, people break their necks travelling to be with family. Wasn't that planes, trains and automobiles, or was that Christmas? Everything gets so expensive, it would make sense for people to organise themselves into meeting up in February.

lolol sorry Kok! :D Of course I remember the pizzas, stupid me. Why is it the people who can actually cook never post in the food thread? Next time you create, post a pic :)
