Opioids Itching with hydro?

Last night was the first time I was itching like crazy...I only took about 25 mg of hydro (15 mg and then another 5 til I hit 25 and wasn't feeling anything, I decided to give up) and ended up having to take some xanax to fall asleep bc I couldn't stop scratching. I didn't take anything else. I know I've read about this with some opiates, but it's never happened to me....is it the amount I took, how I took it, what? Made me feel crazy as hell lol.

I itched a lot when I first started...after awhile I started to like it because I knew it meant I was "high", it was just part of the buzz. I did scratch myself raw once or twice though, mostly this damn spot on the top of my foot....

These days I don't notice it much anymore, its still there just not annoying or anything. If I am on them, I have to remember not to scratch my nose in public. Its just a quirk I have when I'm on an opiate...I always go for the nose! The pin-point pupils are bad enough...but when I'm scratching my nose 5 times a minute people know somethings up ;).

Anyway, its just a common side effect. Some people like it, others don't, and for me it went away over time. Now, if I let my tolerance go down and take something rather powerful I do get an itch. But I think I've lost the magic with opiates...I just feel so guilty now when I use them that they aren't fun anymore. So these days I only take them for pain as a last resort.

Oh, another thing of interest. Another friend of mine, she was on hydrocodone for back pain. Her doctor switched her over to oxycodone and she instantly started complaining about the itch and upset stomach. For her, Hydro worked just as good with less side effects. So everyone is different. I personally find hydrocodone not to be as good as oxycodone for pain, meaning I get more pain relief per mg with the oxy. I settled on it after trying a whole mess of things the doctor through at me, eventually we found something that worked for me. Of course I got stupid with them but that's a story for another time....
