Canada eh, we get milk in bags.
So A friend of mine took some isoflurane from his work, gave it to me to try.

(its an anestesia agent for inhalation for anyone who doesnt know, its widely used in human and vetrinary medicine...its not like I'm huffing airplane glue or something)

So I decided to try it with my GF.

We grab a plastic bag, and pour maybe 1-2 ml into in, and huff. (yeah yeah..its pretty ghetto, I know) At first its a bit pungent and kind of stings the nose. But its not too bad.

Within 20 seconds, I start feeling very light headed, and this sort of vibrating buzzzzzz feeling...sort of like nitrous. At this point I lay down. I no longer have any idea of the passage of time, temperture of the room, lighting, anything, so the rest of the trip report here is based on my feelings internally, as I cant tell you exact times and physiologic effects ect, I was too high to keep track of that earthly stuff. :P

It keeps coming on stronger, the buzzing feeling gets more overwhelming, and I feel very odd. My whole body feels like its floating or weightless, and I feel very "long" like I've been streched out like a ribbon. Its not unlike the body distortions from ketamine or PCP.

Speaking of which, I feel "k-holed" as well. I am unable or unwilling to move, and I am having all kinds of weird trippy thoughs and getting "brain movies" none of them where profound in anyway, but all where entaining and covered many subjects from my childhood to feeling like I was in bulk barn buying bulk cheeto's and sour watermellon slices.

After this "phase" of the drug wore off, I then felt complete and utter peace...everything was calm and still. Just the white noise/humming sound and the feeling of floating. Its had to discribe the feeling. Just...nothingness and yet everything at once. Like I was connected to the entire universe, and yet isolated from it at the same time.

Very neat feeling.

Its not the best trip report, but I tried my best there, as its very strong and causes a good amount of amnesia and impairment (duh...its an anestetic) so I wrote out what I remeber best.

I plan to revisit this substance again...I'd love to try it mixed with nitrous! Its an amazing feeling, its sort of like nitrous and ketamine mixed together. It has a very distinct dissassotive effect and distinct sedative effects.

I noticed no ill effects after, it gradually wears off, and about 30 mintues aftering coming back to reality, its 100% gone.

added: I forgot to mention, I found it very euphoric, and it had the same addictive property that nitrous did...once I started, I just kept going and taking more hits for most of the night.

thanks for the info on cell death...but its about cultured cells and who knows how strong of an exposeur to isoflurane they had.

it is very nice... and if you play your cards right, its easy to obtain (not schedualed or generally though of as a drug of abuse) and very cheap.

Thestudy used 26% CO2, 16% O2, and 2% Isoflurane. The thing is this amount can easily get to the cells if you are inhaling it they way you are. I believe you can find this study on pub chem or pub med.

It seems pretty dangerous.

that sounds almost the same as the anestetic usage...it recomends 3% isoflurane with 70% nitrous and the remainder O2....which is a higher isoflurane then the study, and thats the recomended usage for medical purposes...at that rate, it takes 7-11 minutes for induction of surgical anastesia... afterwhich you drop to 1.5% 2% isoflurane for maintainece.I huff for maybe 30 seconds and then enjoy 20 minutes of being high....doesnt seem too risky to me...I'm getting alot less then is used medically.

Probably better off with methoxypropane, diethyl ether or nitrous oxide... I don't trust any of those simple heavily halogenated compounds, they're too close to refridgerants and banned toxic pesticides.

it seems for legit use...florocarbons are the only way...Diethyl Ether is only used in poor countries/3rd world and nitrous oxide is only used as an adjudant to florocarbon anestesia...Sevoflurane and desflurane and methoxyflurane seem to be most popular, current anestesia agents.

I'm assuming they did resonable testing on them, esp on the newer ones.

But I dont mind ether and nitrous, its just fun to mix it up now and then.

cool, i have long been curious what non-medical use of inhaled anesthetics would be like. this is the first report i've seen of this.

is it known if these compounds act on NMDA or GABA receptors?

Sevoflurane would be my choice, as it doesn't contain halogens other than fluorine. Seems pretty safe as the C-F bond is very strong, and due to the carbons where the oxygen is attached to are saturated with fluorines too so I can't see any super toxic metabolites being formed.
The only other inhalant I want to try is Xenon. I've heard it feels similar to nitrous oxide, being another noncompetitive NMDAr antagonist (blocking Ca2+ influx in the receptor pore).

stirfry: a quick search shows that isoflurane interacts with both GABA and NMDA...howeverl, I diddnt dive deep enough to gather in what porportion, in what way, ect. But it is a GABA agonist, not sure what subtype receptor it acts on. Not sure what kind of action it has at NMDA...I believe it also affects sigma receptors, but that could be wrong, this is from memory.

hmmm...sevoflurane looks intresting...I'll check into the cost avilablity of it, and if I get some, expect a trip report.

also: isoflurane plus nitrous= AMAZING....but dont feel like doing a trip report right now.
