Is xanax worth trying for recreational purposes?

While I know almost all of you would say yes, I wonder what you'd think in my particular case.

I'm experienced with high doses of Ativan, Valium, and Klonopin (and have a nasty addiction of that last one). From day one I've always been confused when everyone calls these drugs euphoric; while the feeling they give me (the rare times I can feel them at all) isn't unpleasant, it's not much fun either, and at it's best it's just extremely subtle feeling of calm and sedation (I take them for sleep). I never abuse my Klonopin script because I think it's a waste, and the resulting "high" (if you can call it that) just plain sucks, so I'm never tempted.

Xanax is the only one out of the 4 big name benzos that I've never tried, but it's also the one everybody raves about, so I'm slightly curious about it and I'm considering picking some up soon just to try it out. However, Valium, Ativan, and Klonopin all more or less feel the same to me, so if Xanax isn't considerably better than those, I'd rather save my money and not bother.

Opinions?

It sucks just like all the rest for recreational purposes.

I would just use them what they are meant for. insomnia, anxiety, seizures, panic attacks, ending bad trips and stim overdose.

Finally some people that agree with me. I think Benzos in general are some of the worst "recreational" drugs around. I can't imaging that heavy, sedated feeling being euphoric to anyone. Opiates are the perfect recreational drug IMO. They don't fuck you up to the point that you're incapacitated and act like an idiot (unless you take way too much), are extremely euphoric and actually give me energy. I would say amphetamines are even more euphoric, but I hate them due to the side effects.

naw bro benzos in general, and xanax in particular, are very enjoyable and to my experience VERY fun and euphoric. just dotn expect an opiate like high, when I taek 2 mg of xanax I findf it more enjoyable than 5 mg, 3 mg is good to, but makes me a biit too high, 2 mg is the perfect amount for both first tiem users and regular recreational users. get on the computer, before you get tired of lokign at the screen ,pop 2 zanies, and try t oforget u took em, in about 20 minutes you'll get ahuyge mood lift, and probably laugh out loud at how good you suddenly feel.

anyyway, lol, yeah, xanax is very recreational, some people though dont find them to be fun or euphoric, but there are also people that dont find oxycontin to be enjoyabele or euphoric, and we know how wrong they are, atleast for the most of us.

so yaeh, soem peopel dont like thenm but most peopel love them. - same with opiates.

^ You would have to not like pleasure to dislike opiates. Those people probably just take too much.

But seriously, benzo's are only enjoyable if you suffer from health problems that it helps with. A healthy person can't enjoy them. It's just a crappy sedation and you don't remember much the day after, and you probably did something like have gay sex or kill someone, which does have consequences.

Wouldn't it suck to black out, wake up in jail with a sore asshole, and be convicted of assualt or something worse?

^ It's just the best for anxiety. Valium and midazolam are regarded as the most euphoric though.

I've only done valium of those, but i only find it enjoyable if I combine it with something stimulating like yerbe mate or other tea like i did today, so i wasn't tired. Made me much more gregarious and focused too.

xanax is my favorite out of all the benzos to me valium just makes me drowsy and k pinz are pretty mellow but they dont hit u like xanax does, to me it is euphoric because it kills my anxiety and leaves me feeling great almost on top of the world like feeling,

to the op yes xanax is really fun and recreational and worth trying especially with some beer or alch just becareful not to go to crazy with the alch if u have somewhat a small tollerance

Agreed on opiates and stimulants being the most euphoric (but I despise the side effects of both). Back in the days when benzos could still sedate me, even there wasn't a shred of euphoria, hell, there wasn't even any relaxation.

Alkaloid, I'm not sure if your post was directed at me, but it reminds me of yet one of the other mysteries of benzo use. People always talk about benzos getting them "so high." You say:

A bit too high? I'm more high if I drink 2 beers than if I take 15mg Klonopin. I'm more "euphoric" too... and I don't even like alcohol. I may never have taken Xanax, but I'm pretty damn confident that 3mg wouldn't even touch me.

i would say no you shouldnt try it for the simple fact that you said you had a nasty addiction w/ klonopin. i wouldnt risk it if you dont even like benzos in the first place.

Xanax is probably one of my favorite drugs, but know that there is a good chance you will end up doing some stupid shit that you will have no recollection of.

i think you can only feel the subtle euphoria from benzos if you haven't abused opiates which have a more in your face euphoria

Exactly :)

Well I have anxiety and extremely severe insomnia. Klonopin kinda sorta helps with insomnia, it doesn't do jack for daytime anxiety. Regardless, I don't enjoy them. One of the first times I took Klonopin, it was 5mg I think, and I remember how amazed I was at how I was just as anxious as always. The only thing I can give Klonopin is that it's good for smoothing out ecstasy comedowns... for other stimulants, not so much.

I'm not worried about risking anything really, I don't have a regular connect, this is just a rare opportunity to pick up a couple and try them out. While it's possible that I would enjoy them, given my experience with benzos I doubt I'd like them enough to start seeking them out. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking Xanax regularly either, because of its short half life; at least with Klonopins if you run out you have a while to get more.

I do not abuse and have never abused opiates.

For my tastes, Xanax® is not a good recreational drug. I cannot deal with the dissociative effects that it creates as well as the amnesia. I have to be accountable for my actions at all times, and when there are times that I cannot remember what I did, scares the shit out of me. That in and of itself is a major turn off.

Personally I take a high dose of alprazolam (2mgs TID PAnx) and it is simply just for that, to relieve my severe anxiety. It really frustrates me when people ask me for one as if they are some kind of gift from the pharma gods. I agree with the poster that stated they are best suited for what they were made for and not as a recreational substance.

A couple people mentioned have mentioned doing things on benzos that they can't remember later. Benzos do wipe out almost all your memory of the night if you take them around bedtime. I understand some people have done some pretty strange things during this time especially.

Personally I've never made bad choices while under the influence of benzos, but the memory loss during the day is so horrifying it feels like I imagine the onset of some kind of early Alzheimers would feel like.

Valium and midazolam are regarded as the most euphoric though.

Of the most commonly used, probably. Nimetazepam and Flutoprazepam seem to be considered, by those who have used them, to be more euphoric. Japan is where they're mostly abused. Considering the stress put on people in that culture, it's not particularly surprising.

usually what happens with me at least is i take like 2-3mgs but then if i have anymore of them on me, ill usually wake up the next day w/ empty pockets wondering what happened the night before and have to call friends to fill in details. that also usually involves quite a bit of drinking, which i wouldnt necessarily reccommend since they are both CNS depressants.

actualy:
im like you : im addicted to klonopin (which used to get me high now just controls my panic and anxiety)
HOWEVER XANAX=me fucked up
Temazepam=me EVE BETTER FUCKED UP!!!
so actualy some benzos may be euphoric for you while others are not. personaly i cant really see how anyone woudl find ativan fun but some people love it. so....YMMV
