Is tripping generally safe?

I mean like if for some reason you decided to do it a lot, is it safe? has there ever been any studies about it proving that its safe? 8(

What do you mean by safe? Most of the substances won't kill you or damage your body, and only a select few have much addiction potential. But when you take a psychedelic drug, the trip you're taking is one into the depths of your own mind, and there is limitless potential there for terror and self-destruction. There is also always the risk of being caught doing something illegal, not to mention the consequences of blending the dream world with the real, as in some rare tragic cases of people on salvia falling off balconies and the like. Tomorrow, I will go to a large public park on my own with an unknown quantity of mescaline that my best guess indicates will make for a moderate trip. There are risks, but I believe I can handle it and that the reward will be greater, so I'm doing it.

the traditional psychs are generally understood to be benign physically. the effects vary from person to person....i feel that regular tripping is healthy in my own life. as in, i've tripped weekly for a couple of years, then went a couple of years with very little psychedelics, and then analyzed at the end of it...theres a study for ya lol.

just see how they affect YOU before you sign up for regular tripping lol
if you center yourself you will know what is right for you :)

oh also i should say...i don't consume things which i understand to be damaging to my body. i don't drink alcohol at all or consume any pharmaceuticals or amphetamine-class psychedelics. i do however, occassionaly consume plant-psychedelics or LSD. from my own readings and observations on the matter i am comfortable to allow these substances into my body from time to time. i feel that alcohol is too toxic to ever let in my body on the other hand lol....just to give you a perspective of a raw-food vegan 'health dude'. psychedelics are about as clean as they come given moderation and dilligent integration.

That's basically all i thought the OP was asking.

I wonder though, can you be allergic to LSD? Can you die from shrooms?

Ive not heard of it,

Tripping too much can lead to some bad things.
You have to have control or control will find you. lol
Depending on how you see it, tripping can be safe and also very dangerous.

Drink responsibly. Study up all you can. Make sure everything is well prepared and set in case something goes wrong, because it can and will if you let it.

Some jerk could always slang you a bag of mushrooms he found on his lawn that could kill you I suppose if you look at it that way.

When playing with psychedelics, buy large enough batches of whatever it is so you can test it slowly and learn how to use it.

I'd imagine you can overdose on all kinds of psychedelics.
Or if you just did enough to lose your sanity and hurt yourself.
Doesn't take much these days with all these new things going on.

Just be safe! Think about what you're doing and the reasons you are doing it.

It's safe as long as you stay out of states of confusion whilst tripping. When people get really confused when they're tripping is when bad things happen. This can be avoided by staying with friends in familiar places or one thing my friend does is whenever he's tripping he wears this little nintendo wristband that says 'know your mushrooms' and depicts a bunch of different types of little mushrooms, he wears this specifically so he wont forget that he's on a drug and freak out and get really confused or something of that nature.

I suppose my friend is a bit paranoid lol it kind of reminds me of Inception with that little top thing leonardo dicaprio spins to make sure he's in reality.

But generally if you start with low doses and work your way to higher ones tripping is a pretty safe thing.

Tripping over sharp objects can certainly be hazardous to your health if you lose a lot of blood from the laceration. :)

Enjoying psychedelic journeys once in a while is perfectly harmless.

Some people can get caught up in the joy of the experience and forget that they need to spend time with the rest of us in "Reality" in order to pay their bills and feed their physical body. Don't trip so often that you forget how to operate in society. Also don't let the demons in your head convince you that they are angels. But also don't shun the angels by thinking they are demons! Or maybe you should just take a priest with you when you trip to keep you safe from entities. Or only trip in a church. Wait, which church is best? Better boil a pot of spaghetti in honor of His Noodly Appendage just to be sure.

Better be in a padded room as to avoid the potential of bumping into something whilst altered.....hmmm, maybe that's not the best setting for conducivity of mental well-being. Well, maybe in the woods...but what if there's a bear...?! :-) security...how far do ya wanna investigate the prospects...? Lol

The term "safe" is very subjective, it really depends on what someone means by that. And even then the effects of a particular drug vary greatly from person to person and even trip to trip. If the OP is asking are psychedelics likely to kill you or cause long-term damage to your physical health, then no. The only deaths involving psychedelics I have ever heard of have resulted from mixing more than one drug at once. I have heard of a few mental health issues that are worsened or brought on by the use of psychedelics, but this is really not as common as the media or the US "War on Drugs" would have people believe either. Alternately many people have reported that their mental health issues improved due to the use of psychedelics.

What I would strongly suggest is doing as much research as you can in reliable sources about the effects, risks, and recommended doses of each particular drug in order to make an educated personal decision about the risk level and whether that risk level is acceptable to you. There is a ton of info easily available online. As with any activity, it is an individual decision about whether it is healthy or not for you. I always suggest being very careful about doses with any drug (including "natural" or plant-based drugs). Taking too much of one specific psychedelic has rarely, if ever, actually killed someone, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. It's always better to take "not enough" than too much :-)

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention is that there can of course be risks from getting drugs that have something harmful mixed in with them or are not what they are supposed to be, but that is a whole other topic. I assumed the OP meant theoretically assuming that the drugs in question are what they are supposed to be and are reasonably pure.

Depends, I used psychedelics for years without issue. I have seen a number of people freak out though but with friends there it didn't end badly. There are other issues to worry about though such as whether or not the substance is what people say it is. This is the only way I know of people passing away really.

generally...compared to?

showering, alcohol, mcdonalds etc yeah.
;-)

psychedelics are funny too because generally most people ive noticed, start taking less with greater spaces of time in-between each of these smaller doses, i suppose because over time one is able to pick apart and allow the "experience" to take place more then the "high.

it's the same with anything... moderation.

but i guess crossing a road when you're intoxicated in any way can be dangerous, but then so can crossing a road sober.

generally though i'd say psychedelics are safe if you treat them with the respect they deserve.

This is as broad as asking "Is taking drugs safe?" to me. There are thousands of psychedelics, some with a very well known safety profile that are near impossible to harm yourself on except through your own stupidity, while others have a much lower threshold for danger and can lead to overdose and death.

The "classic" psychedelics like LSD, mushrooms, mescaline and DMT are generally regarded as very safe, but even with those, a lot of it depends on your environment and mindset. These drugs will leave you very intoxicated, albeit in an extremely different way to other drugs - so you can't attempt to drive or operate machinery on them, you should also avoid being in any sort of environment where impaired judgement could lead you to being harmed, e.g. crossing roads etc. If you're in your room, have a friend with you - either tripping or not, and have any dangerous equipment put away, all it takes is the right dose and you're good to go.

The key is to be careful :)
