Is this vein safe to shoot?

Forgive me if the answer to this question is simply DUH! This vein on my wrist is one of the few really visible ones on my arms. I've always been afraid to shoot it since it's so close to my artery and it's bony, too. I tried the vein to the left of it that sort of wraps around my arm once and when I put the needle in I got pins and needles throughout my hand Perhaps I hit a nerve?

Of course as a 13 year old I had no problems slitting my wrists... which I think made this particular vein more visible. I guess hindsight is 20/20 or whatever.

It's not the most horrible choice, but I would definitely recommend other areas if possible. Do you not have any veins in your arms? Even the vein running up the inside of the leg is a decent choice (not close to the groin though). The wrist veins are delicate and easily damaged or punctured/missed, and are close to a lot of nerves, tendons and arteries. If you felt pins and needles that was probably a nerve. You do NOT want to accidentally inject into a nerve. I have done this even when the vein seemed to register fine and it was horrible. Let me know if you need help finding another suitable vein.

That is really what scares me about it. I have veins on my arms they're just really hard
to see and some of them are too thin and will blow halfway thru a shot. I've been tempted by this one because it's so easy but I guess I'd rather keep digging around my arms than risk an artery or nerve. This wrist vein is just always on the back burner.

Yes & no. I've shot there out of sheer desperation and in my experience - there was a significant amount of swelling although I don't think I missed much (if any at all) of the shot. The vein disappeared for months after that. It's a very tender area, very easy to poke nerves...and that feeling is absolutely awful. Please try to find somewhere else before injecting into your wrist.

It's alot smaller than u think, in comparison to ones on the inside of ur elbow that u may not be able to see, drink heaps of water before trying. being hydrated pops them out more. tie ur upper arm up abit and try to pump them up and start feeling for better options. That vein cud collapse so easy. U need someone who knows wat they r doin to show u how to find the proper ones. Pay attention next time u get a blood test

That is a very fragile vein, extremely easy to blow out. If you are going to try for that spot, make sure you are using the smallest needle possible to do the least amount of damage. A 31G short tip would be your best best. Inject very slowly and be gentle. Also, it is typically not a very good idea to inject anywhere on your body that has a pulse, like that spot. That spot has arteries very close to the vein and you do not want to accidentally tag an artery. Ouch.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to stay away from that vein for now... I don't think I can stomach the idea anyways.
