Hi, im pretty sure what I just experienced was cotton fever... i have had it one other time before although my symptoms were slightly different and less severe.
At almost exactly an hour after injection of the oxymorphone, same timeframe as the first time it happened, i began to feel "off." i knew something was up. a few moments later my hands began to lightly shake like i was cold. instantly i began to violently shake and i couldnt keep the cup of water i was drinking from splashing out of the cup... i lied down on my bed and continued to violently shake... however, after only about 45 minutes or less i completely stopped shaking... i continued to shake slightly occasionally and my body temp rose slightly for about another 15 minutes and then it completely subsided. total experience of about 1 hour. by the time i went to have a cigarette i felt completely normal besides some muscle soreness.
unlike the first time i did not experience the excruciating headache... and the first time i had the headache, although the shaking wasn't as bad.
this is completely different from what i have read about cotton fever... most people experience an extreme fever along with the headache/shakes that lasts up to an entire day.
i am always very clean about intravenous opiate use... i wash my hands multiple times, i clean my equipment, i dont reuse syringes, i use a clean surface, i rotate injection sites, etc. the only thing im working on doing is getting micron filers and bacteriostatic water (im taking time off school so im with my parents and lost my license for a year so i cant get a po box or find a place to mail them).
anyway, my doctors thought it necessary to drop my daily dose from 4x5mg opana IR and 3x20mg opana ER to 3x5mg opana IR and 2x5mg opana ER... as the 5mg ER do absolutely nothing i used more of the IR's than i was supposed to... i did convince my doctor to let me change to 5x opana IR and drop the ERs...
but still, i had already done enough that i have run out early...
i refill on friday but all i have had is half an IR injected twice a day for 1.5 days... i only have one half left and that has to last me until 9am friday when i go to the pharm.
So, in desperate, awful awful pain and withdrawl, i get "unclean" in my injections... i used the pill binder stuck to a few cottons lying around (didnt use the actual cotton, just pulled the pill part off, i really thought i wouldnt get cotton fever this way). i am guessing that the tiny small amount of cotton fibers stuck to the pill binder, plus any bacteria growth from the cotton ball that got on the binder, is what did me in.
SOO, sorry it was so long, here is my question. why did i experience such mild symptoms... can less amounts of bacteria not make the experience as violent? any feedback would be great thanks.
