I usually drink about 4 litres of diet vimto fizzy a day... could this actually be doing me any harm?

I am just curious cus when I think about it, I think 'holy fuck, thats a lot of vimto' but does it do anything bad? I am finding it hard to quit :(

could you post a link as to whats in "diet vimto fizzy"?

im assuming if its diet than its gonna have some sort of artificial sweetener, and those arent good for you :\

I cant find a link to the ingredients online I'm afraid :( but I just looked at the bottle and the sweetener they use is acesulfame k?

Sometimes I drink more than 4 litres :(

Acesulfame K: What are the cons?

The problems surrounding acesulfame K are based on the improper testing and lack of long-term studies. Acesulfame K contains the carcinogen methylene chloride. Long-term exposure to methylene chloride can cause headaches, depression, nausea, mental confusion, liver effects, kidney effects, visual disturbances, and cancer in humans. There has been a great deal of opposition to the use of acesulfame K without further testing, but at this time, the FDA has not required that these tests be done.

idk i dont think theres been enough research on artificial sweeteners so i try to stay away from em.
if your really concerned try looking for something that uses Stevia as a sweetener :)

You have to understand that they are talking about methylene chloride when they explain the risks etc on that website... Methylene chloride is a common organic solvent and is perhaps used on the workup (or synthesis) of the product (this is not uncommon at all and you can say this about ALOT of chemicals). I don't see how it was not removed in the final stage however because it's a very low boiling solvent which evaporates easily.

4 liters a day????? 8o

Personally I would say drinking just a can of diet soda a day is pretty bad for you, definitely think about cutting back MAJORLY.

Maybe try to find some kind of tea that you like to replace the habit.

hmmm.. seems the answer is pretty clear to me. Doesn't matter what the results COULD be: just try to cut intake and eventually the beverage in its entirety.

"Bad" in such amounts.

but its so hard! I am ALWAYS thorsty... maybe not so much thirst maybe it is boredom and I need something to do with my hands (I dont smoke and furiously masturbating in public is frowned upon by some prudish people)

What about fruit juice would that be better? or too much sugar?

^^^^ hahahahahaha.....how bout meth? you'll loose weight -be more productive-your house will be tidy-you'll shave all your pets for no reason and you can spend those hours you used to waste sleeping chain smoking and attending to other neglected housekeeping activities.. I kid..I kid..i shave my pets sober..

Fruit Juice is just as bad in large amounts. Of course, non-concentrate fruit juices in conservative amounts are healthy, but don't go overboard. Al ot of people mistakenly believe that fruit juice is completely healthy and can drink it all day long. Concentrate varieties lose out on many of their nutritional benefits anyway.

4L of Diet Vimto a day is incredibly unhealthy. I would rather drink sugar-filled Vimto than the Diet shit with artificial sweetener's like Acesulfame K which have been linked to a plethora of health issues for various people.

Acesulfame is a nasty one....it stimulates insulin secretion and is linked to hypoglycemia attacks. It's been tested on rodents, and shown to induce lung tumour growth, respiratory problems, breast cancer and a few forms of leukemia according to some studies I saw a while ago. There was "significant doubt" about it's safety apparently...I will try to dig out where I read this.

Swap your Vimto addiction with a redbush tea addiction! I drink tonnes of it, its low in tannin so you can drink alot of it without worry, it's "healthier" than Green Tea, great for your skin and tastes nice too, especially with a touch of honey and dash of ginger.

I used to HATE water, mate. But I never thought I would only drink water (and herbal teas) and eat healthy, but over time, you can acclimatise yourself to enjoy it and before you know it, you will be drinking it all day long.
Seriously, i know you dont wanna hear it, but you are drinking FAR too much of that shit. In moderate amounts, it aint too bad.

I personally avoid it completely because I see no reason to drink it...it doesnt quench my thirst, its full of shit and doesnt even taste good to me.

I know people that consume tons of artificial sweetener and they seem healthier than me. Btw wooger, I remember reading your post from several months ago on the dark side. How are you feeling man?

Just like I know people who have smoked 60 cigarettes a day for 50 years and are in perfect nick, still going strong but that doesn't validate the view that cigarettes aren't bad for you y'know? Some are just lucky bastards!

There are no hard and fast concrete rules and nature always has variables. There are only guidelines.

Sweet beverages taste really good in the moment but they seem to create perpetual thirst. If you switch to water you may notice that you are less thirsty all the time.

Quit the diet drinks right now! I used to drink a litre of diet peach/raspberry spritzer stuff almost daily 3 or so years ago and went through like a pack of gum every two or three days. I now have an extremely weak, unpredictable and shitty (no pun intended :P) digestive system, symptoms reminiscient of IBS. I'm hoping I don't end up with Crohns or any other DS diseases later on in life. Adult diapers aren't cool, if they can be prevented that is :P. Instead of the diet stuff drink water! I've increased my water intake lately and my quality of life has noticeably improved. Obviously I canT be 100% sure that it was due to the artificial sweetners but that was the only thing out of the ordinary in my diet/lifestyle that could be causing these problems. Cheers
