is there anything you ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW?

^^^ Haven't you tried to open the side that is not meant to be opened... it always ends up deformed... I think pleo is on the money :)

Going on from Pleo's point, i think the reason is that if they had the same amount of glue on either end once you opened the carton it would be hard to stop the carton from opening all the way from one end to other. And so one end has more glue on it as opposed to the end you are supposed to open.

Oooooo! Here's on that I've wanted to know for ages!

Melbourne specific. On the Frankston line, why do the trains always slow down heaps when going through Glenhuntly station? Even the express trains that aren't stopping will slow down just for that section, and then take off again.

Probably only people that have ever caught the Frankston line will know what the hell I'm talking about, but it's really weird! There doesn't seem to be any obvious reason (that I can figure out at least).

If its the bit that Im thinking of, the track goes under a bridge?
Im fairly sure, from when I was working with public transport, that the bridge is dodgey, and the less vibration, the better.

Is it a rich area of town?

I remember when I took off from LAX the pilot actually had to turn the engines of the plane off (or something) for a bit due to having to go over the rich area of town.

Maybe a similar thing is happening there.

Nah, no bridge, and it's not slums but it's far from rich. But I think deeCee could be on to the right theory - there must be some sort of problem in that area like loose or old tracks or something. But it's been the same for years! You'd think they'd have fixed it by now (well, I guess that's not all that surprising really).

I'll pay more attention to exactly where it happens tomorrow.

Leaving Flinders St and going via the loop, it actually is the 13th stop! Spooky! But it slows down even if it's not the 13th, and it happens in both directions. I like the logic though! :D

^^^ Though it's been years since i've travelled on that line, from memory isn't the
level crossing just after/before the station basically a concrete block with tracks much like that of a tram as opposed to standard train rails. I could of course be totally imagining things here so i'll try and get a hold of my brother who is a train controller at the head office in Melbourne, he should be able to tell me.

This might sound like a really stupid question but how do you pronounce appreciate?

Is is appreCIate?
Or appreSHEate?

My friends always say "go on Lis... say appreciate for us again" And I say it how it with the C sound. Then they mock shit on me for being such a poshity princess [first time for everything]. Admittedly, it does sound more elegant.

They're all convinced it's supposed to sound with a she... :|

You say it right, it's not meant to be with a "she" sound.

And to answer my own question from earlier, I noticed the other day that the train has to cross tram tracks on Glen Huntly road. So I'm pretty sure that'd be the reason. :)

Does driving on the tram line damage your tires? I heard from two people that both know a fair bit about cars, one says yes it does, the other says it doesnt. Everyone else I ask has no idea.

My car is the perfect width for the tram lines so I don't have to steer! :)

Pleo - is there by any chance a level crossing with tram tracks at the same level as the trains?

Do spiders secrete their web/protein stuff when they die
cos i just sprayed this big black spider to death (yes it's true, i'm a spider murdered) and when i went to pick up up with some paper, the spider was sticking to everything it touched
