As far as Im concerned, the worst opiate wd symptom by far is the sweats. When I approach full blown wd I sweat so much it will soak through my pillow and is always followed by intense chills. The worst is how it just comes on suddenly and I get so hot it just accelerates. I can deal with almost any other symptom as long as I'm bedridden, but this is just so uncomfortable and nasty, and it's very hard to sleep through it. I will usually get hot flashes many times over the next few weeks of cold turkey.

It's not like puking is much fun either, but at least it isn't constant. Nausea comes, I run to toilet, puke, feel a bit better and then I can try to go back to bed. But sweating....ugh it's just so miserable and awful. Is there any treatment that's easily accessible that is very effective at treating this even if it won't do much for other symptoms? Would high dose loperamide work, or does it have to be at least slightly active centrally? And the dose? I've tried taking as many as 15 Imodium tabs of 2 mg at once but I couldn't feel any difference at all except maybe slightly less diarrhea.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Can anyone else relate to my issues with sweating and how it can be the most unbearable of all?

Clonidine would be significantly better, yes. Do not take anti histamines when in withdrawal youll get ridiculously bad restless legs and insomnia as far as my experience goes. Clonodine and benzos are the best thing to ease up the symptoms.

Yeah, clonidine can definitely help with the cold sweat aspect. You just have to be careful not to take too much because it can cause a serious drop in blood pressure.. that's what it does, lowers your BP, so if you take too much it can get too low.

yeah clonodine can easily make your pressure too low. if you think this might be the case, pound a couple glasses of water and it will bring BP back up almost immediately.

I can relate to the sweating, and I never go into withdrawal.

I'm prescribed morphine by a pain management doctor. Even with a continous dose in my system, I sweat, but it's not due to withdrawal. It's a side effect of opiates, and it's downright annoying and embarrassing.

For withdrawal, drink lots of water. Try soaking in the tub, if that helps. I hope you find something that helps.

Just a normal therapeutic dose of clonidine will make a world of difference. It's a wonder drug for withdrawals as far as I'm concerned. If I had to choose between clonidine and 1 mg of lorazepam I'd take the clonidine.

High dose Lope helps me with the cold sweats a good bit when in withdrawal..

you could consider switching to 100% polyester fabric for your clothes and pillowcase. maybe even sheets, in addition to the clonidine idea. a part of sweating that makes it so much worse is the fact it gets soaked up in the fabric around you, polyester will stay pretty dry.

Stay far away with anything that has diphenhydramine in it like Benadryl or Nyquil it increases your anxiety level also as stated will give you increased Restless leg syndrome. Well I can say this till blue in face take it or leave it. High Dosage lope will cure most of your withdrawals, add some painkiller to it like motrin or naprox to full do away with them. Also don't forget when using clonidine that is greatly reduces your blood pressure which in return will make you cold and don't over-do clonodine though it can be nasty stuff at higher levels with your heart and blood pressure. Benzo's work miracles also for withdrawals.

Showers, clonidine, benzos and weed all helps with the sweats. I find weed+benzos to be the most effective, it can almost completely stop the damn cold sweat if you combine them. Weed alone is great too.

Gabapentin & pregabalin also works, but I would never recommend these horrible drugs to anyone.

I recommend having additional beds/mattresses/pillows/sheets available for when one gets soaked. When withdrawing I always see to it that I can roll over to next mattress/bed once one gets soaked. It's ideal to have 3-4 if you can fit them in your basement or something like I have. Usually by the time I roll over to the 4:th mattress the first one doesn't feel as soaked anymore when I have to switch back. Saves you the trouble of changing sheets and stuff that you really don't have the energy to do during withdrawal.

for some reason, i find promethazine to be very helpful in WD's for both nausea AND sweating. i also take prometh as a "booster" with my oxy, as i am prescribed 25mg promethazine twice daily. have had it ever since i stopped drinking booze like a fish and fucked my stomach up for lack of wanting to go into the gross details of THAT mess. if you can get your hands on some promethazine, give it a try. it's rather easy to obtain. a lot of people have it in their medicine cabs. from when they had a stomach virus maybe or something like that. check with your homies and family and just tell them you have a stomach bug and a friend told you that promethazine/phenergan helps with the puking. it does. :D

Are there any other medicines like Clonidine? I'd really need some but it has been discontinued in my country since some years back (whoever came up with that idea needs a kick in the crotch).

Edit: would Moxonidine work?

yes I'm sorry I didn't understand your detoxing from it. Clonidine@ any benzos You can find will help you greatly:)

Best thing for sweats/ need help getting off methadone

The best thing I've found for the sweating, no matter the cause, is a nice big spoonful of Maca powder in a healthy smoothie or juice. You can get it at any health food store and many sites online. It is made from a vegetable root, full of nutrients, so it's very, very healthy and also great for the libido. I've tried everything for sweating and have been dealing with opiate addiction and chronic pain for years. I tried suboxone but then was in a major car accident in which I nearly lost my life just over one year ago. Because of my "history of narcotic use," (mainly the last several months prior to the crash, being prescribed Suboxone)the hospital gave me Toradol(sp?) for pain. I was unable to find any doctor to help me so I got pain meds off the street. I ruptured every cervical disc and already had herniated lumbar discs, and other problems that were severely compounded by the crash. All the muscles in my arms ripped and the scar tissue causes big painful knots in my muscles, so I'm in pain all the time. I was no longer able to drive to the out of town suboxone doctor and thinking it would help my pain, ended up at the Methadone clinic. BTW, I'm a woman, and the only doctor willing to help me is a Chiropractor and I was referred to neuro muscular massage therapy which I had weekly for several months. Now, a year later, I've had numerous health problems from methadone including fertility issuea and night sweats. I'm weaning now but they don't want me off the crap. They want to reduce my dose by a mg a week and I'm down from 110 to 98 now and that's a load of crap. I didn't let her put water in my cup this morning which I know knocked off a few more mgs. but, how can I get them to lower my dose when they refuse? The damn methadone is the main reason I'm not getting better! But as for the sweating, the Maca powder works wonders. As for the methadone, I couldn't find a thread in 'other drugs', and as u can see, I haven't been around in a long while, so I'm out of touch. Any advice is appreciated.

I agree totally. Benzos are the best for stopping the sweats caused by opiates - but if you're after a less addictive approach, like Toz said, I find cannabis works really really well, oddly enough. ;)

Have you tried chelated magnesium? It's a wonderful natural muscle relaxant and easy to get a hold of. As for the rest of the w/d, have you used lopermide? I was significantly surprised by just how much withdrawal is alleviated through using it. A good 30mg dose should sort you out for a little while. Also, try taking a multivitamin and fish oils daily, along with lots and lots of water of course. During withdrawal you need extra water, as your body is fighting against getting the gear out of your system.
