Is there a shorter-lasting (preferably legal) drug similar to amphetamine?

I'm prescribed amphetamine for something similar to ADD in order to do schoolwork, and I'm wondering if there exists any drug (preferably legally obtainable) which has a similar effect but is shorter-lasting. This is because amphetamine, as well as others I've tried such as d-amphetamine and methamphetamine, last at least 4 hours or longer, which is a problem if I'm doing work at night and want to get to sleep at a reasonable hour without drinking/doing something else to knock myself out.

I've tried insufflating amphetamine, which makes it last more like an hour or two, but the comedown afterward still leaves me unable to sleep for a few hours and is rather miserable.

Is there such a chemical that lasts, say, one or two hours without an awfully long comedown?
 
methylphenidate? (ritalin, focalin for D-isomer)
cocaine would be even shorter, but is illegal.
 
I would also suggest you look into methylphenidate if you feel you need a stimulant for the purposes of studying and the like. I would not suggest cocaine due to unknown purity, cost, and outright illegality as well as the fact that it would likely be too short-acting for the purposes in which you are interested.

I understand that; however, a lot of the options I imagine would be RCs that a doctor would not be able to prescribe. Also, I don't have a psychiatrist anymore...
 
If you're looking to the world of RC's to replace legitimate medication for ADD / ADHD, I highly suggest you reconsider this plan of action.

First and foremost is side effects.. we don't know what they truly are yet.
 
Maybe take a valium afterwards? Though getting that prescribed or obtaining it, wouldn't be too easy.
+1 on ritalin, get slow release and maybe have smaller doses?

Again I'm assuming your not in the UK so forgive my ignorance of your medical system, however you have a doctor who is currently prescribing you the amphetamine, you need to start by going back there surely?

In the UK it would work like this, once you had been deemed as stable you would most likely be discharged back to your GP (General Practitioner - Standard Doctor) if you then had any problem you would go back to the GP who may, if they feel happy to do so change your drugs if not they would refer you back to a specialist, in this case a psychiatrist.

We don't know your medical history so it would be irresponsible at best for anyone to suggest a drugs and even of we did where would you obtain it from?

OP - please provide additional (only important) medical history, as well as specific needs from the drug. Otherwise this will become a "what should I take" thread with a lot of speculation; as such it will be closed.

Phenylethylamine.


It's half life is only 10minutes but you can increase that a bit as well as potency and the extent of amphetamine like effects by adding an herbal MAOi to it such as: Rhodiola rosia, goldenseal, curcumin, Syrian rue... There are some others but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
 
Have you considered asking your psychiatrist for a low dose of a benzodiazapine? Or maybe seroquel? That could be the key to getting the most out of your amphetamine induced homework hour and still being able to sleep
 
I abu...ermmm.. used focalin for a while. And the high lasted just as long as a coke high.. it just felt a little cleaner..
 
piracetam isn't a stimulant but it seems to help me cognitively with regards to studying. modafinil is also an alternative that is easy to obtain and isnt illegal in the UK although it costs a lot of money to import and unfortunately its mechanism of action seems to last about 12 hours for me, so i'd take it in the morning. i personally use methylphendiate at the moment as i can't seem to source any dexedrine... here's to acing my finals!
 
Look up DMAA. It has very similar effects to Amphetamine, but won't keep you up.

Use caffeine with it for best results.
