is there a linear relationship between tolerance and addiction with opiates

What I mean is will your tolerance rise indefinitely if you use opiates say 3 times a week never two days in a row without dependence setting in? I have used opiates for 6years without addiction tho my tolerance has continued to rise even higher than people with addictions I know. Will I eventually hit a point where I cross into physical dependency without daily dosing? I never wish to experience dopesickness as I can barley handle noid withdrawl but is addiction only caused by chronic dosing or can frequently acutley dosing cause it aswell? I can iv 16-24mg hydromorphone and be fine and it seems like I will require more in the future, but I know people who only need 8mg and use daily but not for aslong. Sorry if this was confuse ing
