Is taking LSD for the first time really scary for most people

If youre scared to take LSD then dont take it, but something you should know is that pot seems to freak people out more than any other drug on the planet.

Ive done acid probably 30 or so times. Ive also done other psychedelics. I have never freaked out while tripping UNLESS i smoked pot. I have as pot addict however had hundreds, yes hundreds, of panic reactions from weed.

Often times people think, "man i cant even smoke weed. how can i trip?!" But weed has an incredible ability to make people freak. LSD doesnt have that aspect. So if you do try acid, only take one hit, dont smoke pot, and relax. Maybe have some xanax on hand.

edit...

Upon reflection, my first time getting STONED was more scary than LSD.

lol the first time I did pot i smoked so much that I could barely move... i just sat there with my head on the table like wow i'm really stoned. I dont think i had the mental capacity at the time to be freaked out :P

anyway, i wonder how many people who tried acid BEFORE weed would feel the same way. interesting discussion. I've never really felt freaked out or scared on weed. Even smoking weed while on acid seems to be fun for me. kind of kicks the acid up a notch. YMMV (obviously) tho

i was quite impatient my first time coz i thought they were like e's so when the first 1 did nothing for half hr i took another 2 n a half...bout an hour after tht i was loving it tbh was rly intense but easy to handle coz of all the laughter

My first experience on lsd wasn't scary at all, it was amazing. I had been worrying about what it would be like and expected all sorts of out-of-control visions and emotions, but it wasn't like that at all. If you do it in the right set and setting, chances are you'll have a great experience.

If you do get a little anxious, just remember that no matter what happens, in a few hours the effects will wear off completely and you will be the same person you always were. You won't die and you won't go crazy - don't forget it. And just take 1 hit your first time, unless its weak lsd.

Have some beatles, grateful dead, and hendrix on hand and take it in a comfortable place that ideally will offer you the freedom to do whatever you want and go outside into nature. If you want to take it to the next level, jam some shpongle.

LSD>Weed, by a lot.

You should give it a shot. I hate marijuana it makes me an asshole, but LSD is one of my favorite substances.

Id suggest that you dont dose. no reason to realy. psychedelics arnt for everyone.

Wanting to have 1st hand experience of an altered state of conciousness is a valid reason IMO. Everybody is different so simply saying don't without some valid issues to be concerned about (such as a previous history of psychotic episodes) just seems like a variation on the knee-jerk,"just say no" attitude.

First time I took LSD, I didn't feel it was in any way scary although the intense excitement I experienced might be interpreted as fear by some people. As it was, LSD helped me immensly as I managed to come to terms with some big issues surrounding self esteem etc that were a result of losing a hand as a kid. Without those experiences I have a feeling that I'd have ended up being a quite socially withdrawn adult with a whole raft of associated psychological problems. I'm not saying that it (LSD) allowed me to deal with every issue/problem arising from losing my hand, but I'm convinced I'd be a lot more dysfunctional if I'd never had any

lsd or any hallucinogen?

i took mescaline as my first "trip"

it was fantastic!

oh, how the walls were melting!

shit. holy shit half my power just went out. no joke.

um. type back later......

damn.

half my power went out and i cannot figure why. weirdness.

so,

when i did take lucy it was very different.....

it was a bit scary and paranoid. the jaw clenching was the worst....and my spine felt like it was in a vice......nevermind the quality of the drug :|

i decided to check it again about 2 years ago...did the gel tabs and it was awful....its like once you do it so many times you'll never get that lovely existential high you had the first time......bleh.

I had 3 drops of strong liquid for my first time at the tender age of 16. Blew me away, i handled it fine but god damn was it intense. I was changed forever after that day, and have had many more awesome experiences on LSD since.

Yet to have a bad one.

Taking LSD for the first time wasn't scary for me (I had experience with shrooms beforehand), but all the friends who joined me in the experience (it was also their first time, and they, like me, had all done shrooms before) had bad trips. Setting was suboptimal, because we didn't really have a "safe" place to go after my friend's parents came home while we were jumping on his trampoline like maniacs…the trip went downhill quickly from there. Unlike my friends, I did not have a negative reaction and in fact tried to talk it through with them through the remainder of the trip, though this usually just resulted in them saying, "everything is wrong."

^ I've had it god knows how many times over the last 25 years and it still has it's moments when it leaves me absolutely gobsmacked, so I don't think you can make sweeping generalizations like that

^yes, I've heard the "lost its magic" theory quite a few times pertaining to MDMA, but rarely ever to LSD. I haven't done it enough times to find out for myself yet, but I know there are a lot of people who continue to take LSD and continue to find it very special even after many years of use

Ps - just to add in my experiences, the first time I tried acid was very blissful and interesting, never scary (although I found I disliked watching fear and loathing on the comeup -- i usually love it)

Tried it first at 18, i had only researched about it for about a month or so beforehand.. didn't hesitate to take it, was something i told myself i wanted to at least experience once before i die, and i didnt know how many opportunity's i would get to try it.

Nothing could of prepared me for what it did too my thinking lol. I had a slight idea of what to expect visually.. but whoa, the way it changed my thinking was incredible.. since then i've had many more experiences, and its still my one of my favorite drugs :)

I'm kind of in the same boat as the OP. I wonder though, if maybe taking Ecstasy before the LSD experience can help things out? Like, maybe take one pill, then once you start rolling, take the acid?

Would that help put you in a great state of mind so that you can have a good, awesome, mindblowing trip. Or would you just be too fucked up to take anything really relevant from the experience?

Don't over-do it the first time!

I am trying to figure out if it is worth taking. The first time I tried pot was the first time I tried any drug and I hallucinated on it and it freaked me out. I felt like I was doing backflips in my car and I told my boyfriend to call my mom and that I needed to go to the hospital so if I freaked out that much on weed, I think I would do something crazy on acid or I would just be terrified the whole time. What do you think?

I did my first trip really as a spur of the moment thing. A guy I went to school with, suddenly walks up and offers to sell me a couple hits of plain, white blotter. So I buy 2, 1 for me and 1 for my best bud Mike, who I found later. The problem was, the only time I'd ever been around someone who was tripping, was when a not-so-close acquaintance had a really bad trip while camping with like 10 of us, at a state park. This guy literally thought he was seeing Jesus Christ himself, and was really whigging out. WE all had to babysit this guy for the entire night, so that he wouldn't go running off somewhere, to someone else's camping site, and freak some straight people out, and get us all thrown in jail or something! After that, I swore I'd never try acid, but when I did, about 6 months later, I had a wonderful experience off of that 1 hit of white blotter! My friend Mike did also, although he had tripped before. He was pretty much my 'guide' for the night. Just make sure you are with people you trust, in a cool spot, preferably outside in nature somewhere. Make sure you are in a good state of mind, good mood, etc., and just flow with it, and have a good time. Guaranteed it will be an experience you'll remember for quite some time!;)

My first LSD trip was really smooth and easy. A low dose, in a calm setting, with a girl who turned out to become my gf a few weeks later.

Low dose LSD was way easier than weed on me.

strange because MDMA never lost its "magic" for me. i have only done it a handful of time though...

i suppose everyone is different. i definately had a great time the first time on a hallucinogen, but after that it just went downhill....

fastandbulbous- was i making a generalization?? i was saying that was my experience....

Well not being "most people" I couldn't say.

What I could say is that the first time I took acid I was fine & anyone who I've subsequently taken it with ( their first time ) has been fine.

Generally it seems to be positive for most people most of the time.

^True. The whole hype of acid being very very frightening is unfounded. There are moments that I've experieced which have been the height of terror; some truly freaky mindloop hallucinexplosion- but I've experienced much worse 'fear' in 'reality'. Use of inverted comma's denotes subjektive notions of each. Most often, the starngest things will be occuring under LSD and one is simply gawking with amazement. Having a sorrowful drunk is worse by far, to me at least...

My first time with LSD was lots of fun!

I had tripped on many other things before, many times. Psychedelics were nothing new to me and LSD is not somehow scarier or stronger than many of the others I have used. If anything, LSD may be less likely than some of the others to be scary. 2c-e sometimes feels quite dark, cold, and scary - just for one example.

My first trip was terrifying. 12 HBWR seeds. It was the most difficult trip I've ever had, but it had a profoundly positive impact on my life. I was in a very bad mindstate at the time, suicidally depressed. That and the side effects of HBWR probably lead to the difficult time.

I'd say you'll most likely have a good time if you start low and do it in a good environment and mind state.
