I'm a diabetic and been drinking things with splenda in it, do you think it's safe?

I reed that it kills good bacteria in your gut.... personaly I avoid all artificial sweeteners like devil

contrary to what gluten free vegan sugarless hipsters say, theres absolutely nothing wrong with sugar if used with moderation by non obese person who do sport/lifts,witch everybody should be

fuck american authority, for example FDA says all kinds of crap are safe.... they are corrupted evil, make you sick then sell you bunch of bullshit

splenda is unnatural synthethic chemical,it isnt even food it have no macro/micro nutritional value... its pile of crap, and for what, illusion of taste? fuck that shit I would rather never taste sweetness again in my life than put that poison in my body

Well as long as it doesn't cause cancer or anything like that then so be it.

The other purported problem is that artificial sweeteners cause your body to react the same way as to sugar, since it detects the sweet taste and doesn't know the difference. I don't know if that's true or not. I used to drink a ton of tea with splenda and I started kinda feeling like shit, so I went back to plain tea. I don't know for sure if it had anything to do with the splenda or not but I was drinking a lot of it.

I'm 5'9 and 240 lbs...I take psych drugs that make me hungry, so I guess both.

honestly, who really knows if it's safe?

probably best just to drink your coffee straight up black, or add a tiny bit of milk / cream to it. i'd say add a tiny bit of sugar but you're diabetic :/

Splenda is pretty safe, it's actually mostly maltodextrin by weight because sucralose is so potent as a sweetener that it must be bulked out.

Part of why it's so safe is it's not attacked metabolically at all, it's just absorbed and then excreted by the kidneys.

A whey protein shake I used to take had splenda in it and I didn't know until my gut started getting inflamed and I looked at the ingredients list. Once I stopped that particular shake my gut calmed down. Splenda was the only artificial ingredient in it, so I'm assuming it had something to do with that.

Don't really care what the FDA says, if it's not found in nature then I don't want to eat it.

2013 "Splenda (sucralose) is being downgraded from "safe" to "caution" after an Italian animal study linked sucralose to a higher risk of developing leukemia."

From the very same article:

"Even though concerns exist regarding the health risks associated with artificial sweeteners, CSPI believes people are better off drinking diet rather than regular sugar-sweetened sodas. The CSPI says that the health consequences from regularly drinking sugar-laden soft drinks, which include obesity, gout, tooth decay, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes, are probably greater."

Might be true but the information they're presenting isn't that substantial. It's that vague "has been linked to" card. In order to say that sugar has been linked to all that stuff, you have to verify that all the studies that that's based on were properly controlled. There are common foods things other than sugar that have been linked to some of those things. Basically what I'm saying is it's a sweeping generalization. Maybe an air-tight case has been made against sugar, but the necessary citations aren't there.

Yes, I don't think this article itself provides an open-and-shut case. I'm just pointing out for the "I don't eat Splenda because it's poison" people that this article really doesn't support that position as much as they think it does.

I personally would not mess with artificial sugars as they are known to cause cancer.

I do not think much research has been done on splenda and know one knows the long term effects as far as I know.

Really this is something you should speak with a doctor about.
