Opioids Is snorting codeine worth it?

is snorting codeine phosphate 30mg worth it? how much is a safe/dangerous amount, and does it actually get you higher faster and with a lower dose? i've heard different things
 
No, it speeds up the speed in which it acts but the BA is fine orally and it lasts much longer when taking it that way. Trust me, the urge to rail it is worth fighting. The instant bliss I got from railing my Oxy was followed by instant regret 30 minutes later when it wore off. Total waste

Plus let's say in the best case you git the 30mg pills and you want to dose 150, 5 pills are a lot of powder to snort. Plus all the unnecessary fillers and binders stuck in your mucus membrane.

If you have the ones with apap even worse because of apap's poor solubility.
 
You're going to want that Codeine to meet and greet your liver straight through the hepatic portal (oral dosing) so it can be converted to morphine from 2D6 and Codeine 6 glucuronide, the two active metabolites needed to make codeine work properly. Codeine is a pro-drug like Tramadol.
 
Absolutely not @sk82, as above it hits your full circulation faster but still needs your portal circulation to gain the effective metabolite (Morphine) around 10%. Same goes for O-desmethytramadol among others ?
 
To answer this properly.. snorting codeine does NOT work.
Codeine is swallowed, where it passes through the liver and in the liver is then metabolized into morphine which is what you get the effects from. So snorting codeine is simply not a goos idea unless you wish to waste pills.
 
Swallowing is best for the above-mentioned reasons . . . if you want it to hit harder, wash down the codeine with a carbonated beverage -- it will drive the codeine through the stomach wall more rapidly . . . there are plenty of threads on potentiators, but the codeine can be fine by itself as well . . .
 
Is Dihydrocodeine the same, then? As in it is a pro-drug and needs to be swallowed and metabolized by the liver into Dihydromorphine?
 
That appears to be the case, though hydrocodone and oxycodone also are biotransformed into stronger drugs and the gluconrides thereof as well, but seem to have enough intrinsic activity to make snorting them somewhat worthwhile . . . not as much as snorting hydromorphone or oxymorphone, of course . . .

Oxymorphone is the only drug I have found to be of literal 2x strength when insufflated. Snorting a 40MG IR was like Heroin x100. But yeah I have been prescribed every opioid under the sun and have snorted them for faster onset. Aside from that exception, it is a waste of drugs. Codeine does give a warm feeling but it is even weaker than that of Oxycodone and lasts even shorter. The only way for Codeine is orally in my opinion
 
Never had the pleasure of Oxymorphone, can’t get it here. However as a “codone” enthusiast can I assume I would love it?
 
^ It's a keeper all right. But use caution as it is only 10 % BA orally, meaning IV'ing an oral sized dose could kill you. I should look into the lipophilicity of it as I'm not sure how fast it crosses mucous membranes or it's VOD.
 
Future says it loves the mucous membranes, that’s good enough for me lol. What would you say its resemblance is closest to? E.g a supercharged snorted Oxycodone or something else entirely?

Ah man it is pure bliss. I cannot exactly say its equivalent but imagine the nod of Oxycodone intensified by 50. Unlike other opioids it actually has an extremely high BA when insufflated. If you have ever snorted Oxy, it is like that rush amplified minus the "uppity" feeling Oxy tends to give. It is the definition of an opioid nod. I was going in and out of this bliss and warm blanket and it lasts forever. Too good of a feeling for me to manage responsibly lol!
 
What's weird with codeine to me is that conventional wisdom says it's a pro drug which needs to be metabolized to have an effect. Yet I've met multiple old school junkies who swore that injecting codeine got them high (DON'T ever do this though as its probably more likely to kill you than to get you high). I live in NZ where heroin has been almost non existent since the 70s so we generally use whatever pharms we can get and/or homebake heroin (morphine from pharms reacted with AA). So I guess they were desperate and couldn't get anything else to inject.

But maybe they were just crazy lol. But then people also talk about using codeine rectally which would also result in direct absorption into the blood without metabolism (at least I think it does?).

Makes me wonder if maybe codeine does have some opioid effects by itself.

Oh but yeah, not worth it
 
If they thought they were getting an instantaneous BBB pass from injecting codeine @Quere, they must have fallen asleep between the time they pushed it, until the time it had done the loop of portal circulation and kicked in ????

If it had intravenous value, big pharma would still be making vials at a rate they do Morphine. and it would be used in a clinical setting this way. It is used IM very rarely Particularly in paediatrics, it is not wise even that way really.

Be patient your liver is an amazing drug producing machine ?
