L-dopa has a lot of shitty side effects, but apparently carbidopa makes it so that the dopamine only enters the CNS and not the PNS/bloodstream. Since this is dopamine being released in the brain, and one of the most common side effects is "euphoria/grandiosity", I'd assume it'd have some sort of recreational value.
(No, i'm not stealing anyone's parkinson's meds. I just saw a commercial for sinemet and it piqued my interest.)
