Is Shaving Natural?

It's obviously natural, since people evolve and we see the practice gaining popularity. Whatever you decide to do to your body is your nature as a human being. Now if you were to ask if it were natural for a grizzly bear to shave its balls, then i would obviously say no, it's not. But we are humans and we make choices which is natural and evolutionary.

shaving is completely un-natural. if (whoever, whatever) meant to create us like bald 10 year old's, it/he/she/force would have created it that way. or, to be more sensible, evolution has put it there for a purpose. multiple purposes, actually.

1. warmth - Some believe that pubic hair is for warmth. In prehistoric times, when only a loincloth was worn to cover the penis or vulva, this might have held true. However, if the primary job of pubic hair was to keep the genitals warm, males would probably have hair on the shaft of their penis and more hair on the scrotum to insulate the testicles. Additionally, females would have hair on the skin of their lower torso to insulate the internal reproductive organs. (*um....I know quite a few [unfortunate] males who have hair on their shafts and many females have hair on the skin of their lower torso or lower abdomen, I've seen some serious bushes in my day...)

2. pheremones - Believe it or not, humans have the same number of hair follicles as apes, except our body hair is generally very fine or barely visible in comparison. Yet pubic and underarm hair tends to be more visible and coarse. It is believed that the tufts of hair around the genitals, as well as under the arms, release pheromones, which act as erotic aids.

Pheromones get trapped in the pubic hair when apocrine glands release an odorless secretion on the surface of the skin that combines with bacteria decomposed by the secretions of the sebaceous glands. The resulting scent is different for individuals due to a genetic complex called the Major Histocompatability Complex (MHC). Studies suggest that women are attracted to men with very different MHCs than their own, perhaps because genetically diverse offspring may be more able to fight off disease. For some people, scents from these areas are noticeable and consciously increase sexual arousal. For others, pheromones might not be obvious but may be detected subconsciously. For example, if you have a mate who's sweat you find very offensive smelling, it is a potential warning to not mate with this person because your genes aren't compatible and could have a negative outcome on your offspring.

3. cleanliness - it is said that pubic hair aids in keeping the area clean and free of dust, dirt and debris. One may then ask why men don't have pubic hair on the end of their penis - well, penises come with a sheath on them, aka foreskin, which is now deemed "natural" to remove...

4. infection/disease - Pubic hair provides cushion against friction that can cause skin abrasion and injury. Removal naturally irritates and inflames the hair follicles left behind, leaving microscopic open wounds. The risk also extends to sexually transmitted diseases.
Some clinicians are finding that freshly shaved pubic areas and genitals are also more vulnerable to herpes infections due to the microscopic wounds being exposed to virus carried by mouth or genitals. It follows that there may be vulnerability to spread of other STD's as well.

Yeah it's against nature, it's not evolution.

Trim it in the right places - other than that, you shouldn't need to.

Once you've started you gotta keep it trim in those places (I only trim my face, directly around my cock and dingleberry are) to keep things smooth running - dates, blowjobs, and clean underwear hahaha.

The first 2 aren't necessary in my opinion, and I personally find people who shave their bodies a bit strange - gals, no need to shave youer legs or your armpits - unless you're anorexic you will never be too hirsute to a good guy with no psychological hangups, TRUST ME. ;)

IMO, it's naive to equate 'natural=good' and 'unnatural=bad'.

As the 17th century philosopher and social theorist Thomas Hobbes wrote: 'In the state of nature there is only a constant war of everyone against everyone' and the life in that state: 'solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short'.

This quote doesn't really have anything to do with shaving your balls, but you probably get the idea: the quality of our life is completely a product of our being able to leave the 'natural state'.

God need not be involved in a scholarly debate, and evolution actually shows a dramatic decrease in body hair.[/I]

Prehistoric, now that we've evolved we wear clothes and don't need pubic hair.

These come from the pores, not the hairs themselves.

Again, we shower and wear underclothes. We have evolved.

I could see this but, I don't think it stands for the nature/unnatural argument. It's just random info.

The point is, if you were to take the cognitive/emotional aspect out of the matter, you can see that everything we do is a product of natural human evolution. So many people have this strange notion that emotional response = truth, and that isn't the case.

You can't say that anything we do is unnatural. When humans discovered fire, they didn't say "Oh, well, because "NATURE" (as if it is a separate entity) didn't start this fire, it must be unnatural." No, humans are natural, and they naturally develop within nature. This is evolution, you are evolution. Everything you choose to do today, tomorrow, etc. is the natural evolution of your life. Evolution is the observance of change over time, therefore how could shaving your body be unnatural or non-evolutionary? Humans aren't a separate entity above all else, with ultimate say over what happens to the planet. We are just a part of it like anything else, and everything changes over time and new ways of life are formed.

Not necessarily - you can live in harmony with nature whilst still leaving the natural state a bit - we don't even do this - we just rape it like parasites.

Off topic...

I don't understand this. All girls under the age of 40 do it anyways. So how are we still becoming attracted to them or vice versa with no pubes? Do you think this is just something our generation missed out on, that pubes are or aren't important? How do people still fall for one another with farimones or whatever without pubic hair? Is perception or pherimones more powerful?

It isn't normal in the biological sense, but in social standards (in some areas) it is.

When you shave it irritates/inflames your hair follicles, leaving small open wounds - even if you haven't directly cut or nicked the skin. This, combined with the humidity of the pubic area ends up in the perfect living conditions for bacteria.

Apart from that, it's also useful as a "cushion for the pushin'".

DO you feel girls who do it are gross or less attractive? Does this play a role psycholigcally and physiologically rather we realize it or not? Do we need the glands and the pherimones to fully be attracted to a woman like that one guy said>?

natural /ˈnaCHərəl/
Adjective:
Existing in or caused by nature; not made or caused by humankind.

No, shaving is not natural. Unnatural ≠ bad. Natural ≠ good.

It's not wrong to do things that are unnatural, think of how extremely different our society would be if we followed that belief (although I do think a few of the changes might be for the better). "But it's unnatural" is a fallacy of logic. It is not an argument. However, it does bother me when men think it's "disgusting" if women don't shave their legs, underarms and crotch daily. Everyone has different opinions and preferences on the issue of shaving (although I have to admit I'm not wild about HUGE bush, especially on women). Some people, like me, care more about the person than whether or not they shave. There are advantages and disadvantages to each and I think someone should do what makes them feel the most self-confident and comfortable. But I do think if someone doesn't shave/wax they have an obligation to their sexual partners to have excellent hygiene.

(And pheromones still definitely exist without public hair).

Off topic, but the concept of a Brazilian wax still blows my mind. I feel like that would be extremely awkward (getting it done, not the result). 8(

I personally don't care at all if my girlfriend has hair or no hair. I honestly wouldn't care if she had hairy arm-pits like in France.

As long as she washes down there, then I don't mind at all. My woman actually LIKES me with hair down there. I just get ticked off when they don't wash or keep clean.
