Is salt water bad for your veins?

Your body is made up of a saline solution. That is salt + water. You are actually SUPPOSED to use saltwater when shooting up.

Those bags they use for IV's in the hospital, are 9/10 saline...just be sure you have your mixture around .9% to avoid hemolysis/crenation...you want isotonic solutions...

Yeah best way is to use cheap wal mart brand saline solution (for contact lenses), it's better for IVing than distilled water. Make sure it's saline solution, NOT multi-purpose solution!

For the most part it is safe in tiny injection quantities even if the 1mL was saturated to the max 1mL of salt water wouldn't be enough to hurt you.

Sterile saline solution (salt water) should be even better to inject with than plain water.

But I am curious about whether or not saline solution meant for cleaning contacts is good to inject or not. My friend who is a body piercer recommends that people NOT use this stuff on their piercings. Equate (Walmart) Saline Solution contains: Boric Acid, Sodium Borate, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Chloride, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide and Edetate Disodium. Anybody know the safety of injecting these ingredients?

I know it's hard to get sterile saline solution meant for intravenous injection, so it would be good to know whether or not this stuff is in fact a safe alternative.

you're blood is comprised of 0.9% NaCl which is what is contained in the saline solutions prepared specifically for IV injection.

not safe in the least! nor the others you listed.

Actually, saline solution is perfectly safe for injection. NONE of the ingredients are toxic. Not to mention, they are in extremely dilute amounts.

Boric Acid is commonly used internally in medicine.
Potassium Chloride is commonly given IV in hospitals and also used as a salt replacement on food.
Sodium Borate is perfectly safe to ingest in small quantities, nontoxic.
Sodium Chloride is table salt.
Polyaminopropyl Biguanide is a non irritating, nontoxic disinfectant used for contacts and also directly in wounds.
And finally, Edatate Disodium is a chelating agent for removing a heavy metals (lead or mercury) from the blood.

So in other words, yes I do know that it is safe for injection and have used it plenty. All of the ingredients except for Polyaminopropyl Biguanide is used IV in medicine currently, and I certainly wouldn't let it's 0.00003% concentration in saline solution bother you, since it's harmless anyways. Not to mention the much higher concentration of preservatives we consume daily, anyhow.

Here's an ingenious thought...stop shooting up! I'm so sick and tired of getting calls from you guys to deal with your drug habits after you've f*ed up...if you truly cared about your body you wouldn't be destroying it. No. The saline for your contacts IS NOT the same thing as a saline bag that we pump you with after you crash. Next time. Do us ALL a favor. Don't call 911. Lie in your own puke. You are a waste of time, tax payer money, and human air.

Let me reword this for you...."I'm a sad cunt with nowt better to do than come round and create an account on bl to troll people who are asking basic questions for harm reduction purposes."

Fucking idiot, you give me a ballache.

too much salt is worse than too little salt but you should use at least some salt. your body is made of salt water

I personally would never use contact solution nor would I suggest to anyone else to use it, I would definitely discourage it. If you are at walmart anyways then rather than buy contact solution they carry a bottle of sterile normal saline that is called wound wash. It is in a metal can and squirts out. It is sterile normal saline (in medical uses such as IV fluids and flushes normal saline is used and it is comprised of sterile water and 9mg of sodium for every ml of water). And yes, this is usually the most ideal thing to use in injections as it is isotonic...way better than regular water which is not , and is also not sterile.

^ That is good to know. I can sometimes get 10mL syringes filled with saline solution, meant for flushing iv's and the like but they're not always available. I've wondered where else I could get something suitable for injection that was isotonic.

Yep..glad to help. Its the same stuff. It is sterile and isotonic. It does say on the can "not for injection" real small somewhere but when I questioned this it is actually just to discourage people to use it for injections because it is not actually made for this purpose. If it were technically made for sterile IV injections it would have to be packaged differently and would not be allowed to be sold over the counter. So don't be concerned about this. It is absolutely the safest thing you can use (other than normal saline that is packaged specifically for IV injections.. it is the only thing I ever use.

Those are some ignorant and disgusting things to say. If you have nothing that contributes positively to the discussion, please don't post any longer. Do yourself a favor and quit your job.
