Is Phenobarbital Active When Taken Sublingual

Hey people

I have googled it but have had no success but yeah i was wondering if anyone knows if phenobarbital is active when taken under the tongue?

Yup it is. It's still going to go into the blood stream and to the liver, you're just bypassing it's journey to the G.I. tract.
 
^ sublingual avoids first-pass metabolism I believe (for those who don't know what this means, normally the blood supply transports anything absorbed in the GI tract straight to the liver, where metabolism takes place before it reaches the brain - other ROAs including sublingual and plugging avoid this. The drug still reaches the liver at some point of course, but it has a chance to travel to the brain first!)

But yes. phenobarbital is active sublingually as monsta says. I'm not sure about it's metabolism so I don't know how significant bypassing first-pass metabolism is..
 
Seemingly (after doing a bit of reading) there's no need for F-PM :) It's active on it's own and doesn't appear to have any metabolites that are active.
 
Aha! See, it's constant education in here :D

But as first pass metabolism therefore metabolises an active drug into inactive metabolites, it would be an advantage to bypass it... so sublingual/rectal should have stronger effects than oral.

Haha I hope we are right!!

edit: in the spirit of HR, please be careful with barbituates. Make sure you don't take any other CNS depressants at all (alcohol, benzos, opioids etc) and be careful you don't forget how much you have had and accidentally redose with too much. Redosing barbituates in general is a bad idea! Not implying that you won't be careful of course, but I think it is always worth mentioning :)

Thanks heaps i've done some reading up on barbs and know the risks i dont have any left and dont plan on redosing.I havnt been drinking today (although i drank last night but only 3 drinks) its a low dose according to ewoird and have not been takning any other drugs.....Besides weed of course :p

Your going to have to put a shit load of pills under your tongue and I am going to guess it is generally going to be a huge pain in the ass for what may be a payoff that you will not even notice.

Phenobarb takes a long time to kick in and even at semi large doses it is not very recreational.

Had great success mate sublingual is the way to go =D still takes about the same time to kick in as orally dosing but when it does jeeze it has a fucking kick....Felt almost drunk seeing double trouble walkin sluring words ect :p 8 30mg tablets under the tongue does the trick bro ;) wouldnt says its anything to be raving about but ay cant complain there basicly free n great for a night at home chillin, watchin tv n smokin some dank ass buds :D
 
Just pop them... Phenobarbital has a very high absorption rate. It really is not making any difference. Besides, you don't need to have that god awful taste in your mouth.

I do subs every now and then. They actually tasted good. I only really get strips now though.

There is just no comparison. Plus, there is a reason why you need to put things under your tongue. (Low oral absorption.) Phenobarb doesn't have this problem, so it is a waste.

I'm glad you found sublingual phenobarbital to work well, junkie. Barbs make me nervous so I feel obliged to say be careful, although I am sure you are being.

This thread is gone a little off topic, and the question has been answered, so I am going to close it now. If anyone has any queries feel free to shoot me a pm :)
