Trying oxycodone for the first time tonight was quite anticlimatic. My brother's friend came through with a few 5mg roxies, so I gave him a couple 10mg Norcos in return, after a little chat I was now standing with 3 and a half of the tiniest white tablets I've seen yet.... "hillbilly heroin," in my hands, "woah..." I admit, I was quite scared of this fabled, "hardcore" opiate, but after dosing 2.5mg, then 5mg oxy a few hours later followed with 3mg oxy, with about 15mg hydro and some kratom earlier, I thought, "this is it? THIS is the big, bad drug the media
First off, let me say that I think oxycodone is definitely addictive, but only because it comes in high dosage preparations (tolerance, intense high in one pill) without APAP that are easily crushed, and it can also be effectively redosed, leading some people to go on long oxy binges. Also, the rate at which the drug crosses the BBB makes it a lot more noticeable; the quicker we perceive change from a sober mindstate to an opiated one is what makes us feel high, so sticking to the oral route is the safest in terms of psychological addiction.
So.... why is roxycodone so addictive? Media overhype? The tiny size of roxies making it so tempting to abuse by insufflating? The lack of APAP in the tablet also means no CWE necessary for people with hardcore tolerances, like those taking 90mg oxy or 135mg hydro. Reformulated OGpanas also brought a lot of people back to instant release oxycodone.
Summary: These recreational advantages are not the reasons I'm interested in. What I'm interested in is an opioid that has a decent amount of analgesic ability, but is also not too enjoyable. It is not as sedating at hydrocodone, which could help cut out a bit of the IDGAF aspect of opiates and make less naps and early passouts. It also lasts a bit longer, preventing rebound pain and compulsive redosing to maintain the high. I really appreciated the exceptional painkilling ability at 5mg, and it had less side effects than 7.5-10mg of hydrocodone.
