Is "Molly" the Same as MDMA/Ecstasy?

I've been taking MDMA every once in a while for many years. My first time taking MDMA was under the supervision of a psychologist. (I had some GREAT spiritual experiences!) I've also taken Ecstasy at raves and out in nature.

Lately I've been hearing talk of "Molly" in a lot of popular songs. I'll admit I didn't know what they meant by that, and I thought I knew just about everything regarding X and its slang terms. But I guess "Molly" is a new nickname?

I remember when therapists were calling MDMA "Adam", etc. I'm not even that old; I just got started very young with psychedelic therapy. It was quite a "trip"!

Some people have told me that "Molly" IS pure MDMA, while other people insist that "Molly" is MDMA combined with other substances. So which is it? Are "Molly" and "MDMA/Ecstasy the same thing? Thanks.

it depends.

mdma is 3,4-methylenedioxy-n-methylamphetamine, an empathogenic drug of the phenethylamine and amphetamine drug classes.

molly is commonly used to describe mdma specifically in powder, or crushed crystal, form. other drugs are sold in powder form as 'molly'.

ecstasy is commonly used to describe mdma specifically in pill form. other drugs are sold in pill form as 'ecstacy'.

That pretty much sums it up.

Traditionally, Molly was the slang term for MDMA powder, as opposed to getting MDMA in pill form.

Now a days though, Molly is heavily used to mislabel a variety of cathinone and psychostimulants that are similar to MDMA but often much more dangerous.

Molly has become a brand name for Methylone essentially. It attaches a well respected and sacred name to a product that has a much larger profit margin than mdma. It is a marketing technique street dealers have quite effectively used to their benefit.

Whether substituted cathinones such as methylone are more dangerous is debatable to say the least. What is not in doubt is that it is unfortunate that a generation is missing out on the beauty of mdma/mda proper.
