Is mirtazapine less effective if it's discontinued, then restarted again later?

My old dude was prescribed it for insomnia.

It's reduced his day-time energy levels so I've suggested promethazine, but his G.P. advocates the idea that mirtazapine may not work as well if it's ceased then recommenced after some weeks.

No idea if that's true.

Wasn't true for myself.

Any experiences or information on such an outcome?

I think the G.P is full of shit. A lot of times doctors have a hidden agenda and will make stuff up or lie if they think it's in the interest of the patient.
