Hey,
I'm going to weigh in a little late here.
Not to be overly dramatic, but weekend meth use has led to the almost total destruction of a close friend's life.
My friend G started using every weekend. Once just an occasional Saturday night pick-me-up for myself and friends, it became a necessity for every Saturday, then Friday, and eventually Sunday evening for G. She stopped being able to go out with friends, not being able to afford any luxuries outside of meth use. She lost control of her finances. Which meant she had to work more hours to stay afloat. Which of course meant she had to start using meth to have enough energy after a weekend binge to face work on a Monday morning.
It's now crept into every facet of her life, where if she doesn't have it, she's working to get enough money to score, so she can keep working, so she can get enough money to score...
The last time i saw her, her skin was actually grey, her hair limp and dull, her eyes were sunk into her sockets, she was covered in pock marks where she'd been picking at her skin, completely oblivious to the damage she was doing. She just seemed ... brittle. Like she would break into pieces if she fell. It's easy not to notice how bad things have gotten if you're living with it every day, but i hadn't seen her for a while, and when i did i was really shocked at the change in her. And she's fucked up her mind, too.
The most priceless, complex and valuable possession you'll ever have the good fortune to own, and she's pissing it away. Her meth abuse has acted as a catalyst for a plethora of psychological issues. She also can't seem to hold a conversation that requires any level of analytical thought anymore. She comes across as an embarrasing cliche of a junkie, with no self respect and nothing to contribute to a conversation except more boring, useless cliches.
And i thought fuck. Could this happen to anyone?
Sorry if this comes across like some kind of sensationalised anti-drug propaganda, but this is exactly how it happened, just like they told us it would in high school health class.
Kudos to you if you can keep it above board, and keep the use to purely recreational levels.
