Is Levomenthol dangerous?

SWIM has been taking DXM through Robitussin dry cough syrup. The problem is that SWIM has to take a lot of bottles to get the desired effect. SWIM found other cough syrups that contain higher amounts of DXM and lozenges that contain slightly less, but would be much easier to ingest that the syrup. These other products contain other active ingredients though, Levomenthol and Pholcodine.

SWIM has been searching to see if these ingredients are dangerous in high quanitites, finding mixed responses.

So are Levomenthol and Pholcodine dangerous?

^ I call troll, but in case you really are concerned: Levomenthol is Menthol - the stuff that gives mint its taste.

Is mint toxic?

Btw, lose the SWIM. DXM is legal anyway.

Is levomenthol the same thing as just menthol? If so, the menthol likely wouldn't be a problem, but drinking a bunch of menthol flavored syrup can be quite nasty.

Pholcodeine is an opiate-like drug used as a cough suppressant. It's said to lack the analgesic and euphoric properties associated with codeine or other real opioids though. But, it still does have psychoactive effects, and you can overdose on it. I'm not sure what dosages are safe with this drug as it's not available in the U.S., but I would recommend you find a source of DXM that doesn't contain this.

^Thanks. I thought so, but I wasn't sure as there are three chiral centers in menthol, and eight possible stereo isomers of it.
