Opioids Is it worth tapering codeine after 5 weeks use

I have a friend who's been on 90mg to 120mg codeine for 5 weeks, hes wondering should he taper off or go cold turkey. He thinks it might be difficult to taper codeine as the half life is short and thinks he will be in withdrawal.

Would he have bad withdrawals from codeine considering the duration of use and dosage?

if he has/wants to taper then can anybody recommend a taper schedule?

He will be in withdrawal , it only takes about a week or two of daily opioid use to produce these symptoms. You said 90-120 mg a day is what he was taking? I would recommend cutting that dose in half to 45-60mg for 4-5 days , and then go down to 30 mg ( which should be one pill if your friend is getting the T3's...) for another 3-4 days, and then stop taking it.
