Is it safe tpo take ayahuasca while addicted to heroin?

I have recently found myself with the opportunity to participate in an ayahuasca ceremony. Unfortunately, I am currently addicted to heroin. I don't think the two interact, but I was reading about ayahuasca preperation (like foods and drugs to avoid before using it) and it said to wait at least two days after taking heroin before taking ayahuasca. What do you guys think I should do? I obviously cannot wait two days, or I will be in withdrawal during the ceremony.

I don't have a problem tripping on mushrooms while being addicted to heroin but I know ayahuasca is different because of the MAOis.

No. The MAOIs in Caapi will potentiate the sedative effect of an opiate like heroin, and you will risk respiratory depression.

Ayahuasca is a great reason to get clean, and has the potential to actually heal your psychological problems in the long term, rather than just put a temporary bandage on them like heroin does.

The combination of ORAL RIMAs and opioids, according to the BNF, has the potential for adverse reactions, namely CNS excitation or depression (resulting in high or low blood pressure).The BNF mentions pethidine and DXM in particular, but says this can also be the case with fentanyl, morphine and 'possibly' other opioids, and says concomitant use of RIMAs should be avoided.

RIMA = reversible inhibitors of monoamine oxidase-a (the harmalas in caapi are RIMAs)

from all the info I've read it best to be off a couple days first

Well, it might take more than just a couple days for the withdrawals to completely subside, and I certainly wouldn't suggest taking ayahuasca in the midst of withdrawal.

It definitely takes me more than two days to recover from heroin withdrawal. my symptoms would actually be peaking around that time. So basically you guys are telling me I cannot safely take ayahuasca with heroin in my system and I should not participate?

I have the motivation seeing as how I was planning to get off heroin anyway but I don't have the time, so I guess I can't do it. Oh well.

Try LSD. I used to slam dilaudid and oxycontin on a daily basis a few years back. Had some very high quality LSD and quit cold turkey. Also voluntarily joined a military school after that so was away from the drug scene for 6 months.. Extreme measures are needed to do away with a serious addiction. Good luck.

To be honest, if this is your attitude concerning LSD I don't think any psychedelic is going to magically cure your heroin addiction. Psychedelics are not a panacea for drug addiction...

Hello, I am new to this forum and this is my first post. This thread is the only thing I could find with the keywords "ayahuasca" and "respiratory depression" so I'm going to post here and hope that was not a bad choice.
It interests me to experiment with Ayahuasca, but I know the mixture is much more intense than anything I have previously done, so I am currently in the process of simply gathering information. One thing I was interested to know is whether respiratory depression or loss of consciousness has been known to happen with Ayahuasca. Extremely frightening reduction in breathing and desire to pass out have happened to me on two occasions, when I overstepped by dosages of Diphenhydramine and Kratom. Are respiratory depression, seizures, or loss of consciousness common to Ayahuasca?

No, ayahuasca is just like a slightly more psychedelic version of mushrooms. I always take moclobemide as the MAOI and have never noticed any respiratory depression etc.

So basically you guys are telling me I cannot safely take ayahuasca with heroin in my system and I should not participate?

I'm not so sure - I wouldn't take moclobemide on top of a big dose of heroin, but if you took the heroin yesterday for example, I can't see moclobemide potentiating it so much that it would make you stop breathing.

I have a kratom addiction, and would like to do small doses of vine-only-tea, as in the past i have found this very theaputic.

Do you think, if i procceded slllooowwlly that this might be possible. I think it would do me a lot of good.

hey there, im strung out on gear meself, and wer im from its near impossible 2 get lsd, i hav tried it yrs ago b4 i was strung out and i found it amazing, and id imagine any kind of trip wud b nice if ur stoned on gear, obvously if the type of trip effets ur breathing, just maybe smoke ur gear b4 taking a trip, but i definity WUD NOT take a trip while im in withdrawl. id go 4 it if i had the chance
