Benzos is it possible to come back from super high benzo addiction?

i'm talking about the guys taking 20mg and up of xanax, or the equivalent of another benzo, especially for longer periods of time.

is coming back from something like this, physically or mentally, even possible? how much work will it take to get back to normal?

personally i don't take benzos anymore and i try to distance myself away from them as far as i can after getting a slight taste of what benzo withdrawal feels like. i'm pretty worried about a good friend of mine though, so any info will be appreciated

yes, but it takes commitment and a supportive environment, and preferably a long time to adjust back to normality

if you are still mentally dependent on benzos in that you feel you need them for anxiety or whatever... you likely won't last very long sober.

I believe it is, google 'the ashton manual' and there'll be all sorts of advice and tapers in there. Its whole topic is Benzos. I hear a lot of 'urban myths' like a friend of a friend, or this guy on another forum, went through hell for six months after stopping benzos. Ashton reckons that if tapers are done correctly there need not be this huge level of torture to go through. There may be just a couple of weeks of rebound insomnia and or anxiety. Theres loads of further links for further help in the AM too. Ive got a simillar problem with etizolam. Drs dont have a clue when i was on the equivalent of 60mg diaz a day, he was like wow, im on 11 etiz (110 diaz now) but have been taking etizolams in the twenties for a while, been over 30 just once or twice.....

i been on benzos .. various ((several a month) some legit some not... i get valium rxed to me.. i get kpins and lorazepam otherways... ocassionally ill take xanax..

i have a tolerance, but i always do a quick enough taper and lock myself away if i know im gonna run out... hence the name... benzo head.. valium is my favorite... i really want ristoril... temazepam... i love to get a hold of etizolam.... benzos are more addicting to me psychologically than dope epsecially the good ones like diazepams onset... etc... aaahhhhh on my rx yet misused dextrostat tablets... its great... i kicked dope... methadone hell, then still get subutex, and abuse it a couple days sell the rest... i just ate 4mg ativan 8 mg kpin, 40mg booster of dex... day two begins.....

benzos will be a rough battle and so will the speed, because now i need both to cope... fucked up

and i still love my weed, just not daily ... several times a month

o i use benzo.org and tapering with the ashton manual if possible

a lot of people will tell you to use that manual and taper off with valium.

ive tried that, and i prefer coming off klonopin/clonazepam. i was taking 10mg a day of xanax and tons of other benzos like bromazepam and midazolam.

when i finally got off the 2+ year stint, the clonazepam withdrawal was much more bearable than diazepam withdrawal. personally, i think it's because clonazepam has few metabolites (if any, im foggy here) while valium has many, many metabolites. so in effect, when withdrawing from valium, your withdrawing not only from diazepam, but all its active metabolites as well.

sure, the half life of diazepam is longer, but it's god damn terrible withdrawal if you ask me.

opiate analogy; i feel: clonazepam is like coming off hydrocodone and valium is like coming off methadone.

valium hits u fast and just kinda feels shorter to me but its def in the blood.... kpins last a good solid 12 plus hours... not fucked upness but just no anxiety... valium is a very euphoric benzo.... i read somewhere for seizures its not very effective as a single dose... it spreads so to speak rapidly... kpin and ativan can be probably used better... even librium (which i got in jail) for managing constant non redose symptoms... ativan 3 times a day the other two def could be am and pm.... but id advice librium or a kpin taper... something less than the euphoric diazepam... unless you have willpower.. and i like your analogy..

ive wd from heroin, oxycodone, hydrocodone, methadone, bupe.... and the valium in analogy saying is closest to how methadone wd is... im not tapering fuck that shit..... i went two weeks without it no seizures so ill take it... i felt like shit so bad... i took dex and was literally fucked up like rolling fucked up... i didnt sleep even off dex for 2 weeks... phenibut saved my ass...

i can take 30 bars of kpins and not feel more than what 4 feels like... valium 80mg w.o. amps and im fucked up... plus best experience with benzos was dropping a bar of xanax and 40mg valium then drinking a four loco lol.... bad advice (unless you gotta tolerance like i do and most of us here probably do..).... val and xanax together same second swallowed feel so damn good... i use alprazolam rarely... i had green bars the other day... never before saw those... we kinda went on a retail theft rampage... if only u knew what we got..... i remain done with this story... benzos need to be used how u know your body is and semi responsibly... im rxed dex and benzos in high doses but my friend was barred out and drunk, almost got a dui after dropping me off... now hes prescribed valium... lol... as of two days ago...

damn i need to eat... fuck me...

clonazepam is more selective on specific gaba subunits, valium is like all out boom.... i get what u mean tho

I am new to this site. I am in full tilt Klonopin withdrawal and could use advice. I was put on K 20 years ago for a chronic pain condition in my face. I was told that it was an anti anxiety med that it used to control pain. I was never told it was a benzodiazapine and highly addictive.
On New years eve, 2012, I thought I might not need this med anymore and stopped taking it. I was on 1 mg. in the am and 1 mg. in the pm. I went into withdrawal and it was then, after doing research, that I realized what was happening. It is almost 6 months later and I am on 1/8 of a mg 2x a day. I am still withdrawing. Insomnia, agitation, fishbowl vision, tingling, skin crawling. My hair and skin smell weird but that part is going away. I was given Clonodine to help w the withdrawal. It seems to help. I read that the last part of the withdrawal is the worst. I am going to titrate the med...suspend in water...b/c I cannot cut the tablets any longer. What I want to know is, is this the way it is for everyone that has been on a benzo long term? This has been a nightmare. It would be so easy to give in and just start taking k again but I never want to do this again HELP.

MY uncle who helped me get fully addicted to benzos once told me , once your in benzo land, Your in FUCKING BENZO LAND !! I thought whatever u mad pill popper into myself, turns out he was right :X

I definitely think it's possible to get off of them - tolerance is, IMO, what makes it so hard. People who have been taking 10mg a day for an extended period of time can essentially feel like they're getting the same affect they got by taking 2mg a day the very first time they took a benzo, so psychologically, tapering is really important to realize your tolerance will go down as your dosage does.

just taper slowly, expect a 6 month long taper at least, you'll make it out. I've been able to drop my etizolam dose from 15mg/day all the way down to 8mg in a matter of 5 weeks without any issue whatsoever. Alprazolam isn't so forgiving so you can't drop that fast but you can still taper down. Once you're in the 20mg range per day, you'll find dropping to 15mg/day a lot easier, it's when you get down to 6mg/day and try to drop by 1mg that you're going to face some pain.
