i don't have anything too constructive to add to this, but i will re-emphasize a point that the OP made but no one else has commented on yet... 2C-E and 2C-P are REALLLLY different in effects!

Is it known how different substitutions of 2c-x affect different parts of the brain?

maybe this will shed a lil' light on the situation. I used a model for 5ht2a receptor whose accuracy we are debating in another thread, but for purposes of comparing/contrasting binding modes for tryps and phens, I dunno but they ARE pretty!
Here's 2C-E and mescaline:

And here's mescaline and 5-MeO-DMT:

Ok maybe those will give at least a ballpark idea of how much you might or might not be wasting that hit of mescaline!
Don't take my word for it, I'm not a doctor I just play one on TV. I made these for entertainment and educational purposes only. Have fun / be safe.

Also Shulgin discovered that 2-CB (by means of radioactive bromine radio-imaging) found out that the substance accumulated in the lungs before reaching the brain suggesting that the lungs metabolize 2-CB into a different compound before reacing hte CNS.
Actually, it was DOB, not 2C-B:

what do you precisely mean by adrenergic component? are they adrenaline releasers or adrenaline receptor agonists? if so, at which adrenaline receptors?
The 2c- series act as broad spectrum serotonin agonists with an additional adrenergic component.
