OP: is getting addicted have to do with personality?

Everything you've ever done in your entire life has had to do with your personality.
 
Exactly! Let's narrow it down: what is an addictive personality? Specifically, what aspects of personality predispose one to addiction in what ways? How do these aspects of personality stand distinct from simple proneness to using substances compulsively?

I've found out that addiction is a form of mental illness.

- please don't think mental illness is a big deal. >90% of ppl go through some mental illness in their life-time. I think it should be the other way round, ie; you have a mental illness if you don't have one!
 
Some people have an addictive personality, some don't. It's genetics, brain chemistry, and environment. I read somewhere that people with low dopamine content in their brains are more prone to get addicted to substances as they don't get enough mental reward when they complete tasks, and dopamine flooding drugs give them the reward their brain craves.
 
I've heard it said that addicts are usually attracted to substances that fill a vacancy in their life. It is true that stimulant users, depressant users, and hallucinogen users are often looking for very different types of highs.
