i always thought you CANNOT become physically addicted to mdma or ecstasy, but you can become psychologically addicted. is this true?

and correct me if i am wrong, but i thought the only drugs you can become physically addicted to are opiates, alcohol, and benzos. is this right?

I don't know if you can be physically addicted to MDMA or not, but you can become powerfully psychologically dependent on it. Also, regular MDMA abuse will cause serious downregulation on serotonin receptors, meaning after a period of abuse, you will be depressed and/or emotionally absent until your brain can recover.

That's how I would describe an addiction, and this sounds like withdrawal from addiction:

after a period of abuse, you will be depressed and/or emotionally absent until your brain can recover.

To answer the OP, yes MDMA is potentially addicting, and can cause physical and emotional withdrawals in those who overuse it.

In addition, I don't know of any dug that isn't addicting to at least some of it's users. Marijuana, and certainly amphetamines, are physically addicting, psychedelics as well.

Yeah i tend to agree with Bauer........... I guess it comes back to what is the definition of addicted............we have certainly had some members here who have had a daily habit of mdma............although generally they dont last long doing that.

Is having to do it every weekend as opposed to every day classed as an addiction?

my 'friend' has almost a gram of MDMA sitting in his room, he's had this molly for over a month with no urges to use it.
He's waiting for an appropriate time to take with friends.

So for my 'friend' - its not addictive in the slightest :)

^^ur friend is unlike 90% of the people i know associated with mdma :P haha shamefully, myself included. however i hav been able 2 moderate my usage a lot more than most of the people i know as well. yes, it can b phsycologically addicted. if u come at it from the right mindset, i think its a very fun and enjoyable substance however abuse will fuck you over. the 'textbooks' generally dont dont describe mdma as addictive, however i think the emotional/mental effects it has 2 take a tole on the body as well..i really think it can be physically addictive as well, however its phsycological addictiveness is far more prevelant as the use reason

nope, i dont think people would get addicted to the wack ass bunk beans thats are circulating around now. but if it were the 90's rolls than yes.

keo4real... maybe it works in reverse... maybe cuz the high amounts of meth/speed in some pills they are more addicting then before because of the adulterants?

well what i meant about physically addicted is that your body starts to need the drug to just function normally, and if you don't have it you will get sick or your life will even be in danger.

like with opiates and alcohol, once you are addicted, if you do not redose you will get sick, sick like with physical symptoms....vomiting, diahrrea, flu-like symptoms, until you redose.

and with benzos it is even more dangerous because if you are addicted and do not redose you could go through seizures.

is it correct that opiates, alcohol, and benzos are the only drugs that can do that to you?

You cannot become physically addicted to mdma
you can become psychologically addicted to mdma
amphetamine and methamphetamine are however physically addictive and are commonly found in E.

I don't think it's physically addictive but psychologically addictive? Definitely. I used to always associate rave parties with E. I don't think I can remember a party where I didn't pill :\ If there was a party it was probably because I had no money for it :p

addiction?

hi everyone

well i've tried e for the first time back in june, and then since about july i've been rollin almost every week end. i usually pop about 1 or 1 1/2 a pill on a week end, never done it more than once a week, so i was wondering if it was that bad since i read from some threads that i should only do it once a month or every three months. i have to admit that i didn't know much about pills since i found this forum. i thought it wasn't that bad cause i heard some people from my area who's been doing it for 1-2 years almost every week end and sometime more than once a week end. i usually pop those "8 balls" which is a mix of mdma and speed. if it's bad, i'd like to know how long i should wait before doing it again. i was thinking not doing it for a month, cause it's my friend's birthday in a month and she wanna go to this afterhour party, and then maybe stop 'till summer, and then maybe only once a month if i start rollin again this summer. what you guys think about that? also i've never done it home, always done it at an after hour party so yeah i dance a lot. some of my friends lost some weight but i didn't. i'm kinda worried about being addicted to those pills, but i don't know if i am, like i said i usually pop on week ends, then for 2-3 days i'm kinda down and then in the middle of the week i just can't wait till the week end to go party again.

sorry guys for the long post, but please give me some advices or some informations.

thanks :)

You should stop rolling for 6 months to a year to allow your brain to recover from what you've done to it. MDMA abuse is VERY bad for you. The damage it does is easy to ignore for awhile, but eventually it WILL catch up with you and you will wish you hadn't done it so much.

Ideally you should wait 1-3 months between rolls. If you keep rolling every weekend the adverse side-effects will catch up to you and start getting worse.

If you are feeling down for a few days then that suggests the bad effects are already starting to manifest.

I definitely think its time for you to slow down.

thanks for the responses guys

actually i'm not really down for a few days, only for one day and the day after i feel a lot better but i'm just not interested in partying anymore until the middle of the week. i know some people who feel very bad for 2-3 days but that never really happened to me. but i understand that it might be time to slow down.

i got another question, i use to pop only one pill at around 3h am and could dance all night until 9h am, now at about 5-6h i feel like the feeling's going away and then i pop another half a pill but seems like it doesn't really work, why is that? is it because my body got used to it? i was thinking about taking another whole pill instead of half of it but i don't wanna raise the dosage too much.

It's because you're abusing MDMA. Receptor downregulation is kicking in and you're developing tolerance. Stop taking MDMA RIGHT NOW. It sounds like you're about this |--| far away from losing the magic.

alright i guess i'm gonna stop at least until summer. thanks for the advices.

Dispite what everyone thinks, I believe that people are different when it comes to rolling. 4 me, I personally never really got mdma come downs. People thought that was wiered and I guess it is. I say roll as much as you want but w/ in reason. The only thing negitive fur me about rolling is the money and my tolerance build up.
