Basically, I was talking to a kid, who whenever I meet him, says the STUPIDEST shit. I wont get into too much detail about the retarded things he says (like how he punches people in the face if he hears them call MDMA molly)!

So he listing off all the opiates he's shot and why they make heroin a "kiddie" drug. I ask him about desomorphine, and he said he's only shot up the prescription pills, and punches in the face anyone who calls it Krokodil. I heard that it hasn't been prescribed in decades, and desomorph only exists as Krokodil now.

I searched Google, and I searched bluelight. Couldn't find anything about desomorphine unless it was related to Krokodil

Was Desomorphine ever prescribed?I thought it was a mixture of Morphine /or Heroin mixed with some prescription eye drops or something that increased potency. I could and probably am completely wrong.

Desomorphine is a schedule 1 drug in the US.
It's generally referred to krokodil, because of the way it affects the body when administered intravenously.
Pure, unadulterated desomorphine doesn't do that. However, because of the way it is synthesized by the majority of users, it literally eats away at the body.

It was never precribed, certainly not in the west. Desomorphine doesn't really offer anything a dozen other, more established painkillers offer.

It may have been prescribed in Europe at some point- TB meant that all sorts of odd novel opiates were both produced and marketed and there's no reason deomorphine wan't one of them...but it certainly never caught on. Would have been gone by WWII.

I imagine desomorphine is produced because some junkie-chemist looked at the chemicals he could get his hands on and looked through the books until he found somthing he could make. Desomorphine was what he found.

Krokodil is the nickname for desomorphine that is made from codeine by clandestine manufacturers much like meth makers. The process is similar to how pseudoephedrine is converted to methamphetamine. This process for making desomorphine is extremely crude and usually has many impurities. When desomorphine is synthesized this way, it comes out looking like scales from a reptile, hence the name krokodil.

I dnt think desomorphine was ever prescribe to pain patients in the US. The only.way your friend consumed this was using the crude krokodile., or he is lieing. Sounds like the kid is talking bullshit, and I know people like him. The best way to handle then is to just go along with their bullshit and not call then out.

Thanks guys, I know most of what you guys said, but either way, I appreciate the responses. I think though I got my answer.

This annoying ass friend of a friend obviously looked it up on Wikipedia... He say he got a pill that he shot up under the trade name Permonid. It just says on Wikipedia that that's another name for it, it had no info on its prescription history. Also it was synthesized in 1932. It must have seen no use cause even when the German's ran out of morphine for their soldiers, they switched to methadone, and not desomorphine or even heroin.

So I'm going to go ahead and call bullshit. I just wanted to make sure that desomorphine was never prescribed before I confront him next time. I know I shouldn't call him out, but he's literally insulting me and starting verbal fights when I'm hanging out with one of my best friends and a few times I had to up and leave. He needs to be put in his place...

Goddamn, why do younger folks think it's so cool to have done so many drugs and love bragging about it? Even when I was his age I wasn't vocal and super proud of my intense drug use and binges. If he really did all that shit he would not be proud, and he would keep it to himself. Did any of you guys brag about hardcore drug use when young?

Why does my good, good friend even hang out with this kid???

Desomorphine (also called dihydrodesoxymorphine or dihydrodesoxymorphine-D, [or a bunch of other names depending on the country]) was first synthesized in Switzerland by Roche pharmaceutical company sometime around the 1920s, but they didn't test it at that point. It was synthesized and tested in the United States in the early 1930s, including studies on prisoners, but has never been available by prescription there. After the Americans reported its analgesic properties Roche took it off their shelves and began studying it. Desomorphine was trademarked by Roche under the brand name Permonid, but it is unclear whether it even reached the market or anyone was actually ever in prescribed it anywhere in the world - it is more likely it was just used in a few studies. After a bit of arguing among researchers about whether or not it was actually physically addictive (it was), it was quickly abandoned due to its short duration of action (shorter than morphine) and high addiction potential.

Eventually in the early 2000s (2003 is when its use was first reported in the medical literature at least), enterprising Russians found that with codeine, a few fairly easily-obtainable ingredients and a relatively simple synth process they could make very crude (contaminated) desomorphine at lower cost than heroin, which has become known as "Krokodil". Completely pure pharmaceutical grade desomorphine is not the same as "Krokodil", but your friend is either making shit up or very confused about what drugs he takes.

TLDR: I can find no evidence that it was ever available by prescription anywhere and it certainly isn't today.

Thanks! I really hope this kid doesn't act like a jackass next time I see him, which I know he will. If he does, I won't be able to control myself, and I'll have to call him out.

I found out that this kid is my best friend's little brother's best friend. My buddy's bro is cool too and that's why they're both there when we hangout to smoke, etc. I really, really don't want to have to see this annoying ass kid again... sigh

I hope you don't have to hang out with him either, he sounds really annoying. And obviously don't listen to what he says about drugs ;)

Since you've found your answers and this thread is not really well-suited for Basic Drug Discussion (not really "harm reduction value" and we don't normally do legal type questions), I'm going to close it - hopefully you understand. You can make a new thread in Drug Culture if you still wish to discuss the subject of why someone would brag about hard-core drug use and lie about their drug use etc. Please PM me if you have any questions, thanks :)
