Opioids Is color a good indicator for how much opiate is still in pods?

I pour water, let sit for an hour, squeeze and then do it again and the water turns to a lighter color and i can do this 3 times and still get colour. Is this a good indicator that there is still opiate in it or is it just the color of the pods and that is it?

If it is that means you could potentially almost double your dose if doing enough times?

I would prefer to ask here rather than make a new thread so here:

ROA FOR ALL ALKALOIDS IN PODS, E.G. CODIENE ORAL 80% RECTAL? ETC

I'd imagine quite a lot of the colour would be due to Tanins.
Most Alkaloids are colourless as far as I'm aware (Morphine and Codeine are I'm pretty sure).

Codeine's best taken orally I think but rectally is effective also, Morphine IV but seeing as that's not an option then rectally would be best.

yeah exactly, people always stress how color plays a part in potency, i would think once is enough to take alkaloids off pods too

^first, don't bump your own thread. I almost didn't reply because you did that but since you PM'd and flattered me, I guess you earned a reprieve.

Lots of posters on here connect color (darkness) with potency and there is certainly *some* correlation but its not as definitive as some treat it.

As monsta illuminated, the color is more due to the tannins. Now normally when you extract a lot of tannins, you're extracting a lot of alkaloids as well but not always.

When I was drinking tea (most of my experience is with consuming whole but I've certainly had a couple hundred cups of tea), I noticed a correlation between tea darkness and potency but there were exceptions. There were some lighter, yellowish cups that knocked me on my ass and dark, bitter cups that wildly underwhelmed.

This variation could be due to alkaloid concentration variation, differences in temperature or other factors in the extraction process or many other things. This is part of the reason I went to consuming pod grounds over tea (prep time was a big factor too).

If you want bioavailabilities for opiates for different ROA's check the BA mega thread in the OD directory but the above were right about codeine.

Hopefully that was helpful.

EDIT:

I experimented a lot with re-washing and what I found is that with effective extraction, you can get about 2/3's of the active alkaloids out on the first extraction, but often more.

Opiate alkaloids are *very* water soluble so not much is going to stay in the pods. This is also assuming you have ground them finely.

Also, you don't need to steep for an hour. I usually did for about 15 minutes.

I've found that the darker the tea the stronger it will be. But what really lets you know is how bitter it tastes. If it looks like black coffee and is bitter as hell you're going to be knocked off your ass.

After several years of pod use, I can honestly say that there is no rule. The only thing I can tell you is that if it's not bitter, you aren't going to get high. However, that doesn't mean that if it IS strongly bitter it will always get you high. Sometimes it's bitter and you still don't get the high you're looking for. Also, often pods that are bumpy on the surface are stronger, but I have had smooth pods that work as well. Strong pods also almost always have a very noticeable opium smell. As for your tea, darker is usually better, but again it isn't a certainty.

To answer your question about resoaking the used grounds, no...you aren't going to double the dosage. You can get a little more from them, but I would say 90% comes out the first time you brew them. When I used to make tea, I would filter it and then pour some hot water into the filter with the grounds and let it run through to wash out any extra. If you want to make sure you are getting 100%, you can do what I do now - grind the pods to a powder, mix with some water, and chug the whole gritty mess down.

i never ground them down because i dont have coffee grinder and anything else BREAKS when you try to grind pods, i would buy blender after blender only for it to break within one day, i would even take it back and get a new one only for that to break... surprised i didn't accidentally take it to customer service desk with a pod accidentally attached to the blender...imagine trying to explain that!

Does it make a difference whether its powder or not?

Dude, buy a coffee grinder. I've used one for two years now, still going strong.

Why do you keep buying blender when they break?

i used to, cant get one now no money, i got no idea if it makes difference i mean its soaking in water it doesn't matter how small pieces are
