Opioids Irregular Recreational Use Possible?

So, I am at the end of a sub taper, minor withdrawals when I try to sleep without it, etc. I am going to ride it out until I'm sober for a long time, because I got a bit out of hand and my tolerance and bank account were not good.

A little background info, I started doing oxy with some close friends who got into it, not even really knowing what I was getting into. I had taken vics before for pain management, and thought it wouldn't be too different. I ended up being wrong of course, and all of a sudden, around 5 years have passed and I've done every opiate possible. I am tapering off now because of an Opana habit, which happened when Oxy vanished. I'm light-middle ground as far as addicts go, I was doing 160mg of Opana max a day, if I ever even hit that much. But I've either been on opiates or sub since then, with a 1-month break being my longest.

Either way, withdrawals/depression when off/no money sucks and I definitely don't want to get into a daily habit again. I'm not really looking to hear "youre going to be sober, dont go back" because I know that already.

My question is - is it possible to do some on weekends 2-3 days and not go back into the withdrawal phase? I have a friend who only does Rox and never has to sub ever, and feels ok. He only does it on weekends. I definitely wanted to step away from Opana because what it does to your tolerance is insaaaane. I was wondering if any of you had experience with doing stuff like Rox only on the weekend while still staying functional and not withdrawing. Limiting myself to a certain amount isn't a problem as it's not easily accessible - I just don't know how much is too much, or how many days are too many. I could test it out myself, but would rather hear it from someone if they already know.

I just need release sometimes, am allergic to alcohol, and don't like other drugs. I know it's a slippery slope, but it's ruined my life enough to where I definitely dont want to get deep into anything again!

Any HELPFUL info would be sweet.

Thanks in advance.

Only once a week if you are going to do a lot when you do it, twice a week max. Once you start doing it three times a week you will start to use it to stop feeling like shit, and thats when you start to get hooked again.

But if you've already fallen into addiction before its probably best to find a new hobby other than drugs.

Yeah it's just rough - the people who are in deeper than I am have - the people who got me into it, are people who I've been friends with since I was a kid. I know the best thing to do is to cut them off completely until they stop, but I still want to see them every now and then. They're not horrible people. I just know it would be hard to be around anything without doing a little. Again, I may not even get back into it, I'm just setting up my worst case scenario.

if you've been addicted before, especially heavily, and you use after an extended period, you can get away with a weekend without expecting much w/ds. You may get leg cramps, you will most likely get cravings.

if you can keep the use to one to two times a month, I think you would be fine from relapsing back into your bad habit. Anecdotal evidence: I used up to 200mg oxymorphone intranasally each day for 7-8 months (~400+mg oxycodone habit), and quit about 7 months back. Since quitting opiates (opana w/d = worst struggle ever, btw), I've used Oxycodone in the form of Roxi 30s four times. Of the 4 times, 3 were in a row on my birthday weekend (friday - sunday). Monday I had leg cramps, cravings, and digestive abnormalities, but by Wends I was pretty much normal in all aspects.

Good luck not falling back into your use patterns. It takes a strong will to actually go back to recreational use behavior from addicted behavior.
