IQ and drug addiction

enoughorangejuice? said:
i've heard many times that addicts have a higher overall IQ and intelligence level than the general population... and i believe it.. the smartest people i know are addicts or ex-addicts.

i have a 140 IQ and am a benzo/opiate addict.

I'm somewhere around 140 too. That is one in about 700 scores higher than me on the test.

IQ can mean nothing and everything. I can't tell you what having a higher IQ means exactly but it is a predictor in many areas of life. IQ correlates with a lot of things including prospective earnings and life expectancy. It's supposed to be a measure of how good/fast you are at seeing order in chaotic looking situations. Only when we see the order, can we manipulate things to our advantage as us humans do.

People with higher IQs tend to be more depressed, I have a hypothesis that depression, OCD, anxiety and such are all very much the same thing, manifesting itself in different ways; "over-active brain" I call it.

Perhaps a mod could pollify things? something like

"What is your IQ?"
<79,
80-94,
95-104,
105-120,
120+,
"don't know/see results"

would be fine.

Cause its so goddamn high. :)

My point is that if you think its bullshit then even if it came out high its still bullshit , you feel me? If IQ tests dont mean nothing, then gettin a high score aint nothing to be proud of cuz it aint a result with any value to it. iunno jus my view on it. anywys, carry on with ya lil thread guys...

correlation, probably. significance, probably not. when did you guys get IQ tested? all i got was SAT tests

Awesome. People lying about their IQs. I'm impressed.
I got a 170 on an online test once

My IQ was so high I crashed the internet while the online test struggled to figure it out :p

This is exactly what I feel is the root behind all of my problems; my brain is a gear above everyone else's and I have trouble connecting with them.

Whilst I don't believe IQ's are useless, like lacey k said, I do believe that their importance is overstated quite often.

The correlation is statistically significant. IQ is a good predictor in many areas in life. I'm not saying that "IQ" means anything in and of itself (although I believe it is something quantifiable, just not sure what it means), but it does predict many things.

The raw data tells us that people who score highly on these IQ tests tend to behave differently to those who score lower. It is an attribute that different people possess to different degrees, no denying that but it doesn't necessarily mean you understand a lot of emotional and social stuff though.

Us humans are social beings, knowing how to interact with people and get them on your side is much more valuable than intelligence (although it can help) with regards to getting on in the world.

IQ is a useless concept that dont really mean much of anything, and those online tests are completely meaningless. jus a heads up.
While the second part of that phrase is correct (the online tests are COMPLETE jokes), the first part made me lol! Wait till the truth comes out about how truly "ghetto-fab" you are (spoke to somebody who's met our celebrity mod).

I got 150 on a popup internet IQ test, if that means anything + 1500 on SAT at 15 and 7/15 on AIME (this is a national math contest that usu. about 1-3 students per high school qualify for and out of those the average score is 2.5/15). I am somewhat addicted to Benzedrex right now.

my parents wanted me to join MENSA and i scored 141 when i was 12,
but i didnt want to join (sounded like a load of bullshit).

on the online tests i normally score between 135 and 160.

i guess they generally just get the right side of 100 :\

oh btw i enjoy drugs (especially psychs and opium).
i carefully avoid becoming addicted.

My doc told me there was a 95% chance my IQ lied between 110 and 130... needless to say this has convinced me that, even when participating on those tests while being high on weed and ritalin, most higher numbers are meaningless and that for the most part, people just excel in random abilities creating a social blend or something (you can tell when I post sober or not hopefully by now, lol).

I am sure my weed addiction I was suffering in the time when i partook in a series of tests for IQ, ADHD, despression, the whole lot (at least 8 tests were taken over two weeks), It has numbed my brain at that point in my life, but still also have that MENSA invitation lying around. :p

But I stopped caring about IQ points when I was little, they tested me above the 130's and called me 'gifted', yet I have insomnia, ADHD and dyscalculia and would rather have 100 points without all the extra probs you encounter on your road with it (more thinking etc., hope you understand).

I consider the people that life a succesfull live and are enjoying their lives responsibly and with pleasure the truly gifted, thus I don't consider myself gifted, yet some people will always make things harder for you since "you know it all". :\

Okay, I've finished my drunken rambling and should better drop into my bed now :P

peace & good night Bluelight <3

I really aint worried about what someone who thinks you can tell dope quality by whether or not the stamp has a picture on it got to say about my life.

The first statement aint all that funny if you know anything about what IQ tests actually measure. But, this is a thread about drugs n IQ not "is the concept of IQ valid", so lets keep the shit on the topic peeps.

yet I have insomnia, ADHD and dyscalculia

I'm curious...how does your dyscalculia present itself? What happens when you try to attempt maths? What kind of level of mathematics can you handle?

Maths was my downfall at school... I can handle simple things, but when the numbers start to get larger or the concepts more abstract, my mind just goes blank and I can't follow at all.

I really aint worried about what someone who thinks you can tell dope quality by whether or not the stamp has a picture on it got to say about my life.

=D

I just started thinking...maybe the fact you had your IQ tested and have it down on paper could influence a person's actions? For example, say a person receives a really high IQ, although beforehand they were just a normal person who was smart, once they know they have a 'value' on their intelligence, they start to buy into the 'stereotypes' that go with it? E.g. believing they are different to everyone else, etc... and then this could lead to drug abuse down the road, if you follow.

Er... take a look at your post count - you have no life. And it's a concept of correlation if anything: a high IQ correlates with high intelligence, picture stamps coincide with higher quality dope, whadayknow.

Anything beyond differential equations etc I simply stare at it for about 5 minutes and then give up or my answers are nowhere near the actual ones.

I managed to get through maths luckily on other, more simpler equations and with some help of mathematical logic like if 1 = A and 2 = B then A ≠ B (logic and coding/decoding are exceptions in maths for me, don't know why).

I'm more of a science/physics person, but some formulas etc. I still have difficulty grasping after countless times of reading/learning them.

BTW our school system is different (europe), so I had maths on a lower education level than someone going to university after high school which has saved me from failing that course. We still got to learn at least 3 languages tho, like English/French/German/Dutch. Higher education levels in our system learn Greek and Latin for example.

Hope this clears some things up for you (on stims atm so might be rambling too much, need to cut back on those ritalins ;) ) :)

:!

ALL LIES I TELL YOU, DAMNED LIES AND STATISTICS!

Was in the "gifted" classes in school, and saw plenty of people get addicted.

I wouldn't say there's a huge correlation (although there's probably a relationship of some sort). However, I do kind of think intelligence tends to skew personalities towards extremes, so maybe it could be kind of a mediator/moderator in some regard.

I've also never seen anyone on any internet message board EVER state an IQ less than 130. SATs, IQ tests, etc. do correlate with a lot of other aspects of life. But what someone says their IQ is on the internet doesn't tend to correlate with their actual IQ.

if that was the case, they'd be stupid.

so false-positive high IQ testing of a person may lead to drug addiction.

hmmm sounds like some kind of DEA tenuous link right there.
