Like the sun rising against the darkness of night, you know what I mean, it’s like coming out of a dark tunnel, the memory of depression caused by trauma and stress still fresh in your mind. You have been here before and like the times before you intuitively know you are on the verge of recovering from a place and time of mental duress.

May 3, 2024 a pickup truck crashed into our house it was declared uninhabitable. From May until June my wife & I and our 4 dogs stayed at a neighbors house until our homeowners insurance provided an Rv to live in on our property. We lived in the Rv from June 1 2024 to September 30, 2025. It was close quarters 4 dogs and us from summer through winter, spring, summer then fall 2025.
Two key players, our insurance adjuster and our insurance agent representing our claim both retired January 2025. By this time, part of our house was demolished to replace and build a new foundation, however, work was delayed because of lack supervision due to retirement of key figures to our claim.

Living in an Rv is different from living in your house where you already have running water, heating and electricity. In an Rv you must arrange to have these luxuries installed for long term use. We had to contact our senator to persuade our electricity provider to stop dicking around to put in an electric meter so we could have electricity in the Rv. We had to have a generator before the electricity was made available to us during the hot summer months June and July to run the air conditioning for us and our pets.

When the Rv arrived and parked on our property, I borrowed water a couple of times from my neighbor’s well across the street. This did not last long, we had to get 2 large plastic holding tanks to put delivered water into that had to be siphoned from the two tanks into the Rv water tank. When the water tank inside the Rv got empty I had to pump water from the outside plastic containers back into the Rv water tank.

When winter came, the water supplier parked an insulated trailer in front of the Rv that had a large water container inside with a water pump. A heated hose pipe connected the outside water source directly to the Rv city water setting and we had running water that did not need to be stored inside the Rv.

The stove/oven, the heat and refrigerator, the fridge had duel settings that ran on gas or electric was fueled by propane gas that was originally stored in two 30 gallon propane tanks that came with the Rv. We were constantly refilling the tanks as was routine until the cold weather set in we weren’t able to keep up with the furnace running 24/7. We enlisted the services of a propane provider who supplied a larger propane tank, delivered to our Rv.

Of course there was the matter emptying used water and sewage tanks from the Rv to our underground sewage storage tank from the house. This was ongoing.

Looking back, we didn’t think about the difficulties we were experiencing on a daily basis, we just did what we had to do to survive. We knew we were traumatized and we knew were under intense stress but we had to keep going by living the best we could. Neither one of us could predict how long it would take before we felt better, it was one of those things you don’t think about until it happens.

Like the sun rising against the darkness of night, like coming out of a dark tunnel when the memory of the recent past is still fresh in your mind. That’s when you intuitively know you’re on the verge of a new beginning.
