I have a friend who had someone overdose on heroin and die while they were together using. I don't know what to say or do to be a supportive and helpful friend to him after this horrifying event. I'm not a heroin addict I don't know what he needs. What can I do to support him right now? He's a very quiet and kin man who tends to keep things to himself. Thank you for your help and suggestions.

talk to him like a human being? u know like, ask... also you should be more picky about friends, hes a dumbass :x

Thank you. He' s a very kind guy. I don't think he knows how to say "no" and many of his ex-heroin friends on Suboxone and methadone who would normally be supportive of him are afraid to be around him because he is actively using and hanging out with others who use.

Hi there and welcome to the site,

If the guy is generally quiet and reserved he may not like you just pushing support onto him. You can just tell him that you are sorry for his loss and let him know that you are there for him if he needs to talk - then give him a few days and shoot him another message letting him know that your thinking about him and your offer stands, he's not alone etc.

He is a dumbass simply for having friends that use drugs? Please if this is the advise you have then keep it to yourself as it helps nobody.
