Hello... I'm... Ummm.... Introducing myself. Why do I always have such a hard time starting these things?

Okay... So, I live in SW Florida. Late 30's. Have bad chronic pain from Ankylosing Spondylitis. Awful fucking disease. My age and I'm walking around hunch-backed like an 80-year-old, barely able to walk up stairs from sciatic nerve pain when I lift my legs. So, I think my quality of life would be improved if I can find a substance that either reduces my pain or at least takes my mind off of it. Booze and weed only go so far, and tend to affect my productivity (hah). Opiates are hard to come by and/or expensive (no medical insurance). Open to suggestions. That's about it.

Hey :)
Welcome aboard.

I think you may find interest in these natural alternatives, which are legal in your state as far as I'm aware.

Kratom Thread
Kratom is said to be very similar to opiates.

Kava Megathread
Kava is a bit similar to Benzos. Maybe you'd find something helpful in there too. But definitely look into the Kratom.

That "Kratom Thread" link doesn't work for me for some reason. Gives me a message that says "No Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator"

Thanks very much for the Kratom suggestion. That's exactly the kind of advice I was looking for, and I spent a good deal of time reading about it this afternoon. Looks promising, especially since I think it will grow well here in extreme SW Florida where the climate is hot and humid, with warm winters.

Welcome to Bluelight!

Hey Reed,

I understand what severe pain is like. I broke two bones in one arm earlier this year, and I was in severe pain for months. :(

While my arm has mostly recovered, I still have a lot of respect for people who face pain on a chronic basis.

Have you tried psychedelics before? There are a lot of great things that can be done to help with pain. I think the #1 option you have for occasional use would be ketamine. Traditional psychedelics (LSD, mushrooms) may provide less intense but longer lasting relief.

Finallly if you ever want to talk about it - feel free to PM me. When I broke my arm I was in an overwhelming amount of pain. It helped me a lot to be able to talk to others on this site about what I was going through.

Good luck man I know someone with a similar problem to yours only there in there mid twenties :\. What he does is he takes a lot of mild pain relievers and it apparently gets the job done. He ends up swallowing a lot of pills but anything to relieve pain is worth it.

What he takes Daily:

300mg of 5-HTP (although for your first one I would recommend 100 so you don't get serotonin syndrome)

3 84% kavatone capsules (try googleing them if you're interested)

Kratom no idea how much

Weed

Ibuprofen and Tylanol

He's got some hook up for muscle relaxants..I didn't even realize people sold them.

Some other stuff that I can't think of right now but if you want I can get back to you

Good Luck :)

Hey welcome to bluelight. I am 23 and also suffer unbearable pain from Anklyosing Spondylitis. It is hell a torture; I know exactly what you are going though. I am perscibed prednisone, hydrocodone, tramadol, gabbapentin, tizanidine, and sulfasalazine for my pain.

I suggest trying to apply for medicade or medicare if you don't have and/or can't get insurance.

feel free to email me

yeah i hear you all i got way fucked up back and am in alot of pain all the time....worst of all i cant do waht i love to do anymore physically.....but luckily im prescribed...180-30mg IR oxys and 90-15mg ir oxys....and 120-350 somas.......and i could get benzos if i wanted......just gotta find the right pain doc. thats my advice

I'm sorry, people are suggesting Kratom and Ketamine? Seriously? That's not what the OP needs; opiates are made for him. See a doctor and they'll without a doubt prescribe you some sort of powerful opiate.

He mentioned that he doesn't have medical insurance.

And also I would recommend alternatives that could potentially be beneficial before diving head first down the slippery slope that is pain management with opiates.

Laika, if he can't afford legally prescribed hydromorphone or oxycontin then he definitely can't afford any kind of illegal drug. And ketamine? You and I both know that ketamine should not be used to treat pain.
