intro to organic chemistry

as i am about to begin my first year in biotechnology and throughout my years in school i haven't paid any attention to my chemistry classes whatsoever, i figure i would need to gain some basic knowledge in the field (for practical purposes too).
so, anyone out there with good recommendations as to where i should start? links to PDF files with plenty of colourful pictures especially appreciated :-)
 
No pretty colourful pictures, but this older text (e-book) is regarded by many as the bible for organic chemistry

Vogel: Practical Organic Chemistry

For a more recent basic text on Organic Chem with lots of good pictures, try Organic Chemistry by John McMurry (sorry I've no e-book link but it shouldn't be hard to find a cheap second hand copy)

Organic Chemistry -Mc Murry

If and when you're acquainted with the basics, I have several more advanced books in electronic format that I can email in pieces if you're interested.
 
hey welcome to my field. i just graduated from undergraduate studies.

are you entering the work force or college? either way I would look up acid/base chemistry as a start. a fundemental knowledge of how Pka and Ph are related can be pretty useful and that shouldn't take too long to learn
 
Stuart Warren has a couple of good books.
The little Oxford Primer books are good too.
You can beat a decent set of lecture notes though.
 
finished my chem degree 2 years ago.

in my opinion the most basic things you need to know are general electronegativity trends and how these relate to dipole moments. athough technically electrostatics don't drive reactions, they are very helpful with reaction prediction and mechanistic predictions.
 
Zubrick puts out a good organic chemistry laboratory practices textbook.

Just google Zubrick. I can't be bothered.
 
Plurred, what technically drives reactions if electrostatics don't? I ask not in derision but in total curiosity, if this is a simple question.
