Television Intervention

So true. Reality shows generally aren't an authentic representation of reality. The' Dysfunctional Picket Fence' type scenario's; that can elude to the chance of a happy ending, makes for better, emotive t.v. viewing. Family Values are a virtuous, political tool , 'The concept of Family being strong and generally good; the 'addict' being the lost sheep needing redemption. It follows a moral/religious script that would appeal to that sense of justice and order within a certain demographic of viewers, all for ratings IMO.
 
Intervention!!

Is anyone else obsessed with the show on A&E called Intervention? I have been on their website ALL DAY watching all the episodes. I love this show. I love watching about the drug addictions and what they go through. Only thing is..it makes me want to use!!! But I am totally enamored by this show. I always wonder what the people are up to now and if they are still sober..I usally try to look them up online somehow.

i would have to say my favorite is Miriam, who has been addicted to smoking pcp for 25 years. she is just a really charismatic person that you dont want to stop watching her talk. her addiction was really sad... it definitely made me feel bad for her and want her to get a better life.
 
I really enjoy Intervention, although lately I like Hoarders even more, I think A&E shows in general just tend to be good. I feel like unfortunately, the show is starting to get repetitive because although each addict is different, it almost seems as if there is a storyline involved with how they communicate with their friends and family. Sorta like house House (even though its fiction) has the same plot line every episode.
 
i use to watch it every week but now rarely and if i do ill just browse through an episode in like 15-20 minutes, u know intro, watch em get fucked up, skip the pre-intervention, fast forward to end to see if they made it through rehab or got kicked out.

dude is a walking bag of testosterone. that was a good episode, his girl is "cassandra cruz" and she is in it crying and takin his weed.
 
90% of the people in this show are rich suburban pussies. Half of them don't even have real addictions, just serious attitude problems. Like the girl who was "addicted to heroin" yet she didn't know what it cost and shot up like twice a week. The fucking worst one was the girl on dusters. She was so proud to be "addicted to drugs" and she loved to keep calling dusters drugs and doing in her moms face as much as possible. Fucking attentionwhore to the max.so many drama queens on that show. Like the one girl who "cut herself" and it barely would even bleed.

These fucking spoiled self centered fuckers with no real problems other than their attitude are the reason people think all drug addicts are fucks
 
I agree that a lot of them are obviously immature and were incredibly spoiled as kids. But when you see their fucked-up families, you kinda understand a little better where they come from and why they turned out to be self centered fuckers.
 
Have they ever shown an episode on MDPV or MCat? Or its just the mainstream ones I suppose.
 
I don't know about mdpv... most of them are mainstream like alcohol, meth, heroin... but there is a really interesting one about a woman who is addicted to PCP. I recommend that one, I think she was really interesting as well as her story. Plus you rarely see people addicted to PCP lol.
 
^i do not usually like Intervention, but after reading your post i went ahead and watched that episode. i'm glad i did. the actual intervention was just a bunch of sobbing. but as you said, her story leading up to that was very worthwhile. she seemed like a very decent person. and her sadness felt real and justified.

it is crazy how much her speech was improved in the 3 months later interview.

Earlier "Intervention" episodes seemed better?

I hear opinions about the show "Intervention" on A&E once in awhile, and they seem to vary 50/50. Either people don't like the show, or they can't wait for new episodes to air from week to week.

It seems though, through the years of Intevention, that it just doesn't appeal to me like it once did. I feel like they used to bring you closer into the addicts life, and they always had the regular interventionists we got to know, season after season. I know things are just bound to change, and I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm just curious. Does anyone else feel a sort of change in the show from what it used to be?

I know they script little updates on the screen about how the people are coming along in their recovery as of a certain date-and you can go on boards where people chat about it on the A&E website, but there's alot of the people we watched on there years ago, and its like a mystery, how they might be doing today. Anyone remember Audrey, from one of the first few seasons? It was then that I found the episodes really drawing me in. Maybe it's just getting old and fizzing out now, like myself. Ha ha
 
i love this show, just to see how fucked up people can get. unfortunately, this show makes me fiend like a bitch. but i'm still willing to watch it. i prefer the drug episodes over the alcoholic ones.
 
The show is emotional porn and its not even that well done. They try to make the addict seem completely crazy and totally at fault for the family being fucked up. Its almost like they are trying to dehumanize the addict during the segment where they show them using or scheming to score. I really liked the DJ AM gone to far thing on MTV better I thought it did a better job of humanizing addiction without the freak show emotion, intervention uses. I just feel like the show expliots desperate familys whose true motives are not always clear.
 
IMO, Intervention is shocking. I always thought that I have come from a "dysfunctional" family, but after watching a few episodes of this show I have my doubts

How come those families expose themselves so much for the whole world to see? How come they let their arguments, fights being showed?
That stuff is private. I guess the producers must pay the each one in the families a lot of money...

remember one episode (the most shocking that I saw) where they show alcoholic mother and son (Donna and Josh). Mother and son were drinking buddies.
But not only that. It shows the son (Josh) neglecting his little daughter, threatening his sister, and worse, it shows he and his mother sleeping together in the same bed.
Later in the show the interventionist refers to that as "unconsummated incest". Who the fuck wants to show the world that this kind of stuff happens in their household?

Also, I dont know how the addicts dont already know that they are participating on the show Intervention and there is an intervention at the end.
I dont live in the USA and I dont know about the popularity of the show there, but it seems kinda odd
 
My favourite episode was the one with the kid addicted to bath salts. He had created a device to fight the shadow people. It was very funny but also kind of sad. Another favourite of mine was on Intervention Canada where a son and mom smoked crack together and the son would have to wrestle the crack pipe away from the mom to get a hit.

I hate the actual intervention part where the family sits around guilting and shaming the addict. In most cases it's the fucked up family that drove the addict to start using drugs in the first place.
