Interracial Mixing

to use the beetles for such a message......... I don't think pual would conclude with your "nature" philosophy

^^the parent thingy is so true....when i was abroad once, my mom got all freaked out when she saw me and my sister talking to my cousins black dude friend. DOH!!!!! Many similar things. I dont blame them, i cant change them either...but i definitely will associate with who i want and just keep it from them so i wont be hassled. Good thing, nothings come up yet that is major.

^^CC-I can totally relate. My sister took a black man with her to a soriety (sp?) dinner. When she showed the pictures to my dad, he flipped out! (and they were just friends!)

when I was in elementary school I had a black boyfriend for like 2 days. Someone told my dad and I thought it was the end of me. I denied it and still would deny it he ever brought it up again. (and it was just a stupid elementary school thing of just saying "this is my boyfriend", ya know)

I can def see the attraction of sleeping with another race, because it would be so "different" (for lack of a better word). But, I couldn't bring them home for dinner. And if a black man were to ask my father for his permission to marry me, my dad would say absolutely not. (and any man who's going to ask me to marry him is going to speak with my dad first! that's just the way it is.)

I think darn near everyone has familly that wouldnt support interracial relationships with their children/parents/brothers/sisters etc...Same goes with my familly, my mom would be cool with it but that is it! My brother already told me if/when i have a black GF or wife that i cant bring her around because he doesnt want his daughters seeing it. :\ Funny thing is all these people (if you asked them) would say they arent racist. 8)

BTW, this happens with every race, not just white people.

I totally have a thing for black girls, and growing up i was taught that black people evolved and white people were created. =D

biology

I didn't bother to read every post, but I noticed a few pertaining to the actual biology behind this. I would like to explain my understanding of it. I can't possibly cover everything, but here is some explanation. A species changes over time when members of that species become isolated. Within their area of isolation, their environment, climate, etc. is different. Genetic mutations occur in individual organisms just by chance, most of which are neutral, but some may hinder or help the organism. If it allows the organism to survive in that specific environment then it will be passed on to the next generation of the species. So, one species is divided into isolated groups and those groups change because their environements allow certain traits to be useful. The environment doesn't actually cause the change. Skin tone (which is not the only difference among races) must work the same way because if an individual becomes darker within his/her lifetime due to the environement (sun exposure), they will not pass that on to their offspring. It is not a genetic trait that they acquired. In regard to breeding interacially: Creating a larger "pool" of genes is always a good thing. When the pool is narrowed, the chance of harmful birth defects increases. I will cite an example given by my biology instructor, but I don't know it to be true myself. He said Amish people inbreed and you will almost always see an Amish family in the waiting room at the hospital because they are getting help for their children due to the harm caused by inbreeding. Ultimately, this can cause extinction of a group. I've been in biology class all morning so I don't feel like talking about this anymore, but I just wanted to say a few things.

Good that you won't let it change you but I disagree that you can't blame them - of course you can, and should blame them!

Sickle cell anemia is most common in people of African heritage, by and large, they are the only ethnic group carrying the defective genes causing this disease. If all the races interbred, then everyone would have a little bit of African heritage and still have the possibility of both parents carrying that recessive trait.

Actually, now that I think about it more, I think that if we got thoroughly interbred, so that we are all essentially one race, that eventually the recessive traits like that might be eventually seeded out, just by the laws of probability...
It would be drift into oblivion eventually, yeah, but it would take a long time. There would be a big drop in the number of ppl affected with sickle-cell anemia -- or any recessive disorder. The proportion of people with both nasty alleles goes as p^2 where p is the proportion of the alle in the population. So for sickle-cell, if you mix carriers into a world population, say, 10 times as large, the number of ppl with sickle-cell anemia will drop to 1% of its former value.

For really rare diseases like Tay-Sachs, you'll essentially eliminate it entirely.

um....lets just say ive tried, me and my siblings have tried, and its just something that causes more hassle than good when the issue is constantly being brought up or reiterated. Im just speaking about the black dude incident .
I know my parents more than anyone, and i know how to handle them the best way i can, thank you.;)
Like i said...it was just with that black guy. im actually relieved that my mom isnt adamant we marry into pure chinese...(im half chinese) all my chinese relatives on my moms side are VERY clannish and would not want any other kind for their children to marry. NO pressures in that area...;) THANK GOD!! !
I dont think my parents would mind at all if i bought home a European or american boyfriend...i have many friends with different nationalities and have never had a prob introducing them to my family.
The day i fall in love with , lets say, MArlon Wayans or Puff Daddy (lol!) is the day i worry myself to death about what in hell to say to the rents. Cross the bridge when i get there! :X

:D ;)

I've noticed that in a lot of different cultures they don't look down upon their children if they mix with a different race with the exception of black. I think its really sad that people have the negative attitude with blacks, like if they were a different species or something.

^^^ Asian too, if it's caucasion. But yeah, it's a pretty fucked up scenario. That's why I feel we should let our parents know it's a disgraceful attitude.

It's not racist though to not find another culture physically attractive. While i have nothing against blacks.. i find their hair and skin color (when too dark) to be a turn off. I think of this as nothing more than not like eye color or hair color though. Subconsciously, this could play a huge role.

There is only one race -the human race though there is a huge diversity of stupidity and ignorance. The only difference between a coloured and a non-coloured person is the tiny bit of chemical that creates coloured skin. Though having coloured skin is beneficial, as it helps against the radiation from the sun.

End of discussion.
