'X-files' Strike Dateline Interview

Description:

Although it had been in operation since 1997, the Hive gained broader awareness in 2001 when NBC's Dateline special The "X" Files aired. This investigation into the use and production of MDMA featured the Hive and its founder, 'Strike' (Hobart Huson). Strike was the founder and site designer of the Hive as well as the author of several popular books (Total Synthesis I and II, and Sources) instructing readers how to synthesize a variety of amphetamines, obtain equipment and chemicals, and avoid prosecution. He remained anonymous until Dateline's investigation and interviews revealed that Hobart Huson (owner of the Strike-recommended laboratory supplier "Science Alliance") was the man behind Strike. The NBC program showed Huson/Strike at his office/chemical warehouse, complete with a stuffed bee sitting by his computer. The program led to Huson's arrest and imprisonment, but also spurred the site's growth. 'Rhodium' and a small group of dedicated individuals actually ran the Hive and its sister site Rhodium.ws for most of the sites' lifespans.

I honestly can't watch this. Propaganda causes me physical pain.

isnt most things propaganda?.

Propaganda [from modern Latin: 'propagare', literally "extending forth"] is a concerted set of messages aimed at influencing the opinions or behavior of large numbers of people.

While watching I didn't feel that it influenced any of my opinions on anything really.

I thought it was good. And a good change to the usual drugs are bad type storys. This focuses on MDMA chemists and follows a group of novice chemists making mdma for the first time.

There is more than one way to define propaganda.

And, they casted drug use and manufacture in a fairly negative light. I wouldn't say they were over powering with their direction though.

They DID, however, throw out the disgusting propaganda tool of the attempted association of death rates to the unethical production of illicit drugs.

There are FEWER 100% confirmed deaths from MDMA than asprin. It's fairly rare that a person actually dies from MDMA itself. The death rate is irrelevant in this case.

To use the term Ecstasy when attempting to shun by the example of death rate is even more silly. Consider that Ecstasy is not MDMA and only MDMA most of the time. THEN factor in the idiots that intentionally mix X with other drugs...
The death rate wouldn't even be as high IF MDMA was legal mind you.

That would be like blaming aspirin makers for over dosed users or people who drink booze with aspirin and find themselves with stomach bleeding.

blah blah.

I didn't expect the documentary to be that bias. They basically found video tapes made by people who have extremely addictive personalities who found drugs. Not everyone who does drugs act like this at all. Some of us are responsible people who know the dangers of drugs and how to use them responsibly. If this video showed a bunch of people getting wasted, I don't think NBC would be airing such a documentary.

What shocked me most about the documentary is that these morons videotaped themselves on E...They are just asking to get caught red handed. To those of you who watched the video...what I find most interesting about this whole thing is I did a search on amazon.com for strike and his books are still for sale. Its called "Total Synthesis". Wow

This video was actually making me angry when I kept hearing these little youths constantly yelling out "Drugs are fun!!!". Obviously very uneducated and immature.Fucking homos making out...thats so dirty.

P.S The only thing I liked was the music

Dude, that's NOT cool. Just because a guy kisses another guy (especially whilst under the influence of MDMA), that automatically makes them gay?

Damn, you're pretty closed-minded.

Makes em fucken gay in my book. I don't care how munted I am I would never do that under the influence of any drug. E makes you connect better with people. It doesnt make you want to kiss the same sex.

The simple fact is that people do things for many reasons. A lot of the time, especially in a situation like that, it's likely to be a dare for a laugh. I've done it, but that doesn't make me gay. I think that my current girlfriend and my ex-wife can attest to that one.

I think at the end of the day, you need to realise that just because a guy kisses another guy, it doesn't make them gay. Besides, I'm sure that if it was 2 girls kissing in that video, it would be a completely different story, with quotes along the lines of "That's hot!"

Just because it insults your sensibilities/morality/whatever, don't go throwing around shit like that in such a derogatory fashion. It just makes you look like a bigoted homophobe.

To me it sounds like your the one getting all defensive because you have been in the same situation. We are not even talking about a peck on the lips here, but a full blown out passiionate kiss. It was quite sickening actually. If that doesn't make you gay, WTF does!

Being physically and emotionally attracted to men. If you smoke pot once that doesn't make you a pot head, if you eat a vegetarian meal once that doesn't make you a vegetarian, so as far as i know kissing a guy once doesn't make you gay.

Well said, LuGoJ! I put that in my rant below, but you beat me to it. =D

Um, actually Dave, being physically and emotionally attracted to someone of the same sex makes you gay. I wasn't talking about a peck on the lips either. So, you're basically saying that because I've kissed a man, that I'm gay, although I never harboured any physical or emotional attraction towards him?

I'm not getting defensive, as I'm not ashamed of what I did, I'm more annoyed that you seem to be taking the attitude of a 13 year old with your comments that pretty much amount to "eeeeew, gaaaaay!".

Just because it offends you, doesn't mean that it will automatically offend anyone else. I'm not speaking for everyone else on BL, because what do I know about their sexual preference or attitudes towards homosexuality? I'm just speaking for myself. Yes, I've kissed a man whilst we were both high as kites on E AND out at a club, and guess what? I'm still very much attracted to hot women.

The simple thing is, if something like that sickens you, try to forget about it, lest it leave you with irreparable mental scarring.

Also, I noticed that you chose to completely ignore one of my main statements. So, let me put it to you as a question. Replace the guys in the video with girls. Now, have them do the exact same thing. Would you think it was sickening, or hot?

Answers on a postcard please.

You like guys too?

If they were nice chicks, I would think it's hot, but that doesn't prove a thing.

I love the fact that you think I have the maturity of a 13 yr old just because we have a difference of opinion 8)

It has nothing to do with your actual opinion, but how you present your opinion that irks me and makes me question your maturity. You could just have easily said "I didn't like seeing those guys kiss, it made me uncomfortable", but instead it was "Fucking homos making out... thats so dirty".

I think that your jab at LuGoJ pretty much validates my questioning, really.

In answering the question in my last post, you have actually proven something. That you have a selective attitude towards homosexuality. You think that if two guys kiss, it's disgusting and wrong, but if two [nice looking] women kiss, then it's hot.

Guess what, it's the exact same thing, just with the genders reversed. The act is no different just because both parties have breasts and vaginas as opposed to a penis and a pair of testicles.

I don't know how old you actually are, but it seems to me that mentally, you've still got a lot of growing up to do.

Straight guys don't like watching gay guys kiss... Its nothing personal, and it doesn't mean we're homophobes. Get over it you overly sensitive homo's! A little peck is no big deal but noone gay or straight should be making out in public.

Why does it surprise you that you can still buy his books? There is also total synth II. A lot of the hive is archived as well. I am sad to have missed out on those times. Great discussion on the OP guys, I found it very interesting. 8) ;)

As for the topic on homosexuality. All the narrow minded comments, what do you have against a gay person. They probably haven't done anything to you so why hate someone because of THEIR PERSONAL CHOICES. Its wrong and it is just another form of racism and hate.

I am no where near being homosexual I just think it is wrong to hate someone for their own decisions when it doesn't impact anyone but themselves.

You guys need to quit hijacking this thread. Take it somewhere else.

As for this video.. it makes me sick. I hate bullshit and lies.
