Sorry if this has been covered before. Searching for diphenhydramine or benadryl just brings up threads asking how to get high off the shite.

I'm wondering about the interaction of diphenhydramine with psychedelics (particularly mushrooms) when it is taken at a normal dose (25-75mg). As I'm not an idiot, I'm not looking to get delirious off the benadryl or try to "trip" off of it. What I want to know is, does it work to decrease anxiety? I know it will also decrease the perceived psychedelic effects, but this isn't a concern.
 
It will not cause any complications between the chemicals, yet it will likely not help with anxiety either. DPH is not a very good anxiolytic. Just keep in mind that psilocybin is safe. That works pretty well.
 
As jackie said, it's probably not gonna give you the positive effects you want - a benzodiazepine would work better, but personally I say a change of scenery/music, a nice cup of tea, or some other relaxing activity is the best way to resolve anxiety in a trip. Benzos are a last resort if you've decided there's no hope recovering a positive experience and just want to dull the negative effects.

The DPH would help with any allergy/histamine-related issues, it might make you drowsy, and as you know it gets nasty if you push the doses way too high. 25-75mg would be fine on any non-MAOI psychedelic if you want the usual DPH effects. They won't really interact with the trip much at all, aside from the fact that any change in how you feel may interact with the trip of course.
 
DPH is well known to counteract the uncomfortable somatic feelings associated with 2C-E. Quite effective for this. Seems to enhance/strengthen the trip as well.

Actually quite a fascinating and multi-faceted drug with a long history. See the wikipedia page on it. I was quite amazed.

It was like the original SSRI or something? And has immediate effects on Serotonin receptors and/or re-uptake? Dont recall which.

So it could well enhance a mushroom trip. Or reduce anxiety. Or the opposite. Hard to say without an experiment... 2C-E and the cocktail of psychoactives in shrooms work via pretty different pathways I believe.

But I will guarantee one thing... benzos will just reduce or eliminate the shroom effects. Benzos are used to turn down or off a trip. That would be a waste of perfectly good mushrooms. Drug abuse!
 
Diphenhydramine and Philosophers Stone Mushrooms

So I tried to ask about this awhile ago but the one response I got was : "That sounds awful. Don't do it." So I've come to ADD (when did the name get changed?) looking for a little chemical advice. I'm interested in taking mushrooms and Diphenhydramine and while there don't seem to be any obvious negative chemical interactions (other then possible potentiation of one or both substances) I am quite the novice and so I humbly request your advice on the matter. I will try my damnedest to bring back a trip report.
