well i've been getting myself acquainted with the wonderful world of benzo's over the past week (and also ive noticed a big increase in benzo posts in this forum). In particular, Xanax has been my drug of choice, because the first time i did it (a couple of months ago) i found that i had a nice low tolerance to the stuff: i'd be out like a light soon after railing less than .5mg of it.
But after doing about .5 - 1mg every night for the past week my tolerance has gone up, but even worse, i've been getting some really bad insomnia.
Like last night, I had a nice 1mg dose at 10pm to calm down a pretty tense DXM trip. I got myself into bed, braced myself for sleep, but eventually the effects of both drugs wore off and i was wide awake. By about 4am i was fucken worried, but didnt want to take any more because i'd feel like shit the next day. I ended up sleeping thru my morning lectures. I had a similar incident a few nights ago as well.
Sorry about the length of this post, but my question is: Can this insomnia be attributed to my recent xanax use? And if so, does anyone have any tips to avoid it?

the "contains no caffiene" kind of tea doesn't contain any caffiene

All benzos like xanax are highly addictive, and can cause things like insomnia, hallocinations and inability to control bladder functions. Basically they just fuck up your brain if you take them constantly for a while, and then suddenly stop. Benzo withdrawls are aweful. They can cause seizures and sometimes death. A friend of mine was up to taking 30mg of xanax a day, and then stopped cold turkey. He talked in nonesense sentences that no one could understand, and kept trying to pick things up off the floor that werent there. He was also hearing voices. I dont want to scare you, but that could be why you cant sleep after taking them for a while.

30mg of xanax a day? I don't think so. Even in my hardcore benzo abuse days, I never came close to this amount, and my tolerance was huge.
Benzos are not highly addictive, that's bullshit, they are one of the most useful, innocuous drugs available when used properly. Addiction (or, properly, dependance) only occurs after months of daily use and then, yes, you are fucked, because as I have said before they are a screaming nightmare to kick.
But if you've only been using the xanax for a week and your doses have been fairly low, I don't think your sleep problems stem from it. More likely it has something to do with the other drugs you are taking, or just a messed up sleep pattern.

an idea...don't rely on benzos to knock you out. and don't do drugs late enough in the day that they will affect your ability to sleep. if you don't have the amount of time needed to come down of a drug completely before bed time, then save it for the weekend.

and if you still have problems sleeping try taking melatonin 2 hrs before bed every night. it will take a couple of weeks to see results, but once you do, voila! natural sleep! (melatonin is produced in your body if you are wondering how i can call that natural).
