Hi out there. Quick question. Best places yall have found for IS's? I have tiny veins in my arm. Was gonna use top of my hand but read on a site thats a bad idea. When I'm in the ER, they always put an IV in the crook of my right arm. Left arm....forget it. Ive had multiple RN's at a time trying to get an IV in. They roll too, uuuughhh!! I can kinda feel the big vein in my right arm but I do not want to miss the vein. Why is the top of the hand a bad idea? What about the ankle? Just looking for some good harm reduction on this important stuff. Thanks for any tips.

Crook of the elbow are the most solid veins..where they are thickest and roll the least. Hand is one of the worst place sto shoot.. a lot of nerves and if you miss you get catchers mit hand really bad.

Anywhere below the waste is off limits.. especially if you are new to shooting just start with the crook of your elbows and maybe your cephalic a few inches below the base of the thumb. I can't imagine why youd use an ankle if you havnt collapsed your big accessible veins yhet.. I dont get it.. you can feel the vein but you don't want to miss it?

You should practice and research.. ther eis no reason to miss.. you should register anchor you rpin and shoot, if you feel any burn what so ever immediately stop.. its becuase you slipped out of the vein. It;s people that see a flash fo blood then decide just plunge the pin down that end up missing. You have to take your tiem if you are new to shooting.

It took me a long time to get it right. I had so many missed shots my arms looked like pin cushions for a while. The first thing I tried that worked was going into the bathroom and turning on the hot water (either shower or bath) to warm up the room. My veins are deep and also tend to roll. Also staying hydrated works wonders. But the most effective thing I've found is lifting some weights (just doing a few curls with something heavy) will pop my veins out nicely. Then I tie off - not very tight - with a strip of elastic (like you'd find in a waistband), make a fist (for some reason my veins tend not to roll when my arm is tight) and wham - I hit first time, every time. As soon as that tiny bit of red sneaks in the syringe I pull the tie off (I use the kind of knot that just needs one pull - I don't know what it's called, I'm no boyscout), and register perfectly. I don't need to heat the room anymore, and hitting is a breeze. It just took practice and patience.

On the other hand, I do like to take my time...I love the ritual, it's like foreplay.

And yes, I do realize this post makes me sound like such a dork. But hey, whatever works, right?

Caveat: drugs are bad, and needles are the worst. Be safe.

As said before, as long as you stay away from the hands and feet, and those other crazy spots. Ive heard people injecting and stay with the crooks and forearms, you will be good. you want places that in case you do miss a shot are more prone to healing on their own...

Thanks. I have a huge vein on the left side of the round of my wrist. I think that would be my best bet. I wont miss there for sure. Probably off subject a bit, sorry. What is yalls favorite syringe gauge for a novice? I was thinking 31 gauge or something. I know the smaller, the better. Anyone know where to get micron filters? Medical supply superstore near my house? Ill see tomorrow. Any hints or tips or redirection to helpful threads would be great. Most of the time I search in BL I get a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with my subject. Then, I gotta search thru all these threads for a hint. I dont have that time.....not this time a year anyway. I still love Bluelight though. Love it. Ive learned a lot about harm reduction on here. This site probably saved my life. Gauge size and micron filters dudes and dudettes. Thanks!
