i always use 29g.. any smaller and i can't register (opposite of what they were saying above about ease of registering with smaller gauges) and never any bigger than the 29's either, so it's always 29g's lol.

And the winner of the stupidest design in syringes goes to...

I was out of my usual brand of needle-exchange syringes so I went to Walgreens to buy some... And discovered the absolute dumbest design decision you could possibly make in a syringe: frosted plastic.

The "clear" plastic of the syringe is purposely frosted. Maybe they thought it looked cool, but it essentially makes it impossible to hold it up to the light and see how clear it is; even pure water will make the number/lettering on the other side look a little fuzzy because of this.

Idiots.

If you get syringes like this and shoot pills (where being able to see how clear/clean your solution is), try another brand.

About a month ago i shot up 2 30mg morphine pills that were purple with the white beads on the inside. I took the beads out, crushed them up until i had a powder. Took 50ml of water put it in a spoon, heated it up until it was boiling then added the power. Pulled in through filter and banged it, 20 minutes later i had a horrible headache and became very very very sick for the next 3 days. I was puking up everything, had a horrible headache and just felt like shit. Anybody know what this was?

^sounds like a dirty hit - in other word your taste got contaminated somewhere along the line in your preparation. Maybe you didn't wash your hands, or your filter had crap in it, or your spoon etc. Probably wasn't anything in the actual capsules.

btw - those caps sound like Kapanol. You will get a better filter if you use cold water. Also best to use a micron filter.

I agree that thinner needles are always the way to go. I never go bigger than 29g, and sometimes use 30. As long as they actually can pierce your hide, as far as I know there is no downside. Aside from making it easier to shoot, the smaller pin pricks also heal faster and are less likely to leave track marks.

The ONLY reason I can think of to use a larger gauge would be if your hands are shaking from withdrawals; when that happens, those thin needles slide in and out of your skin so easily it makes KEEPING them in place for the duration of your shot more difficult; a slightly thicker needle stays anchored a bit better.

Its probably a good idea to have a few sizes standing by!

It seems that people have different luck with different size needles. I find 30gauge to be perfect, easiest for me to register / shoot with. If my exchange carried 31gauge I would probably force a switch over to those, though, because of the decreased scarring and vein damage. Hopefully the difference is minimal.

There are a few times though when I wanted the extra length (1/2") of a 29guage fit. Mostly when trying to hit on the top side of my forearm or along my bicep. Sometimes the 5/16" are just a hair to short.

missed vein, how long to wait before i try again

i miss the vein in my hand, it was in my car, not great light, but im a newbie, still having trouble hitting anywhere.

someone said that i have to wait 4 hours to try again or its a waste. is this true???

i don't understand your question.

if you missed a vein, then just deal with it. you may get an abcess, but a lot of it (more likely all of it) will be absorbed by the muscles.

if you want to shoot again, then just choose a different spot. if you missed at one spot you can try another spot right after it. you don't need to wait four hours, and you shouldn't try shooting in the same vein twice in a row, especially since there is the threat of infection, abcess, etc.

Missed Shot

I missed a shot in my right forearm. West past black tar, really dark shot, it just bubbled up. It hurts. 24 hours later and now it's slightly raised and painful. I don't have health insurance and before I ever shot dope I got an access and cellulitis so I think I'm prone to them.

How can I prevent an abcess? I have a bottle of 40 500mg amoxicillan.

Whoever gave you that advice was an idiot. You can try again 4 seconds later.

i was told by someone with over a thousand posts that if you miss a vein, you should wait 4 hours otherwise you wont get the rush because once you inject into NOT your vein, there is dope on your receptors. what he meant was that you should wait til you are "sober" again before shooting another bag.

Well I would still think you'd get a rush. An IM injection is going to be slow released, if you inject again right away you'll get a rush.

sorry i would tell you how much to take but im allergic to that antibiotic so i honestly have no clue on dosages for it.. im sure searching will find something to at least give you an idea, whether you search this site, wiki, or google there should be dosage info out there.. good luck.

site found through google said:
For most infections in adults the amoxicillin dosage are 250 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 12 hours or 875 mg every 12 hours, depending on the type and severity of infection.

i searched for you and found that.. someone who has experience with amox. can give you better dosage advice. as i only took it when i was young and got hives so when i get infections i take cephelexin (sp?).. sorry.

But im outtie BL nite/mornin everyone.

go to a free clinic.

you need to get that checked out.
amoxicillin can only do so much..

your skins gonna rot and get infected from the black tar..

seriously...go to a clinic..

People miss shots all the time with tar, they dont rot and die. I will watch it, do hot compress. It's not actually the tar that is the problem, it's the solution sitting there. It becomes infected and then you risk blood poisoning.

Just a thought: I wouldn't go taking your amoxicilin without getting as much information as possible. I'm under the impression taking MORE antibiotics than you need can be harmful, although I don't know all the details. Sure, if it starts getting all red and screaming at you after a couple days, and you can't get affordable medical care, then at a certain point that'll be better than ignoring it.
But, if you take a kind of antibiotic that's ineffective against that kind of bacteria, if you don't take the full course, or if you generally take it when you don't need it, then it can be counter-productive. And also contributes to antibiotic resistance (not that I really worry much about social responsibility while doing dope or fixing its disasters).
HdoubleD's advice sounds best, I guess I have nothing to contribute after that haha -- just to ask will amoxicilin be effective for those kind of infections? I have no clue either way.
To be more constructive: Maybe also double-check in a forum where you can hear from medical providers of some sort? Doesn't seem like anyone is responding with direct knowledge of how to proceed here

You should make sure to take the right precautions so you don't OD if you missed your first shot and are going to do a second right away. Unless you know the potency and how you react to it id wait at least 15-30 minutes
