Injection; IV Complications and Information MEGATHREAD and FAQ II - show me the blood

Um, no offense, but what did you expect upon entering the world of drug addiction? Easy street?

Sounds like you might want to look for help in the social areas of Bluelight, maybe the Darkside forum where people discuss dealing with addiction.

In any case, it doesn't sound like you really have any injection issues anymore and selfish me wants to see a megathread like this stay on topic. Its no fun when new users with injection questions get sent to this thread and they have to read through 24 pages of drama to get to a few scattered posts that actually discuss injection.

I hope everything works out for you. Seriously, it sounds like you need shrink talk more than needle advice.

Chuck a tourniquet on and have a good look up and down ur arm. Take your time and swab up good; sometimes the wetness of the swab on the skim shows up the contours of a vein. Don't just use sight, feel around for the spongy, bouncy feeling of a vein. As long as you don't go to deep, you won't hit an artery. Arteries have a pulse and bright red frothy blood. If the blood spurts in a pulsating manner, it's an artery - pull out and hold pressure for at least a few mins, up to 15.

Having a shower prior and staying hydrated will help you find veins. If you hold ur hand out as if to shake hands there should be a vein crossing the wrist leading vertically from the thumb to the arm, also on the opposite side of the wrist if u follow the little finger down, when u get to the wrist there will be veins there. Where these veins cross the wrist is where you can see/feel them. Otherwise use the search engine on this site, there are heaps of tips. But have a good look at ur forearm, that's where I'd start if I were you.

Although Mr. Burrows isn't taking the most diplomatic approach here, he does raise some valid points. Derailing this thread has 2 predictable effects- people looking for injection complication information will have a more difficult time locating it and you are not getting as much support and insight as you deserve (Miss Aura) by posting this here.

I think it'd be a good idea to make a thread about this in The Dark Side forum and if you have any questions about OD/BL in general, or about getting clean (I'm studying the field of addiction treatment) then please don't hesitate to PM me. Take care.

Thanks for the link, John. I think we'll probably merge this into that thread but we can leave it here for a little while for more exposure so the OP can get some more answers first.

Thanks a lot for the replies! And about the link, I've seen that thread, the map didn't really help me too much but I guess that is the best page around. Was just wondering what some peoples rotations were. Thanks AuraLee that info was helpful

first one i go for is on my right arm (not the "crook") more like if you hold your hand out palms down it runs on top of the arm to the left of the elbow (some other smart guy can identify just which one)

if that one is causing me problems i go for the vien right between my ring and middle finger on my left hand (took some practice to get good at hitting that one and its the easiest to conceal)

if i cant hit that one i will go to my right arm and follow the vien that goes between my index and middle finger on my right hand and touch in until i find out where is buldging enough for me to feel confortable enough to hit it

if i cant get that one (and yes it has happened, i have tried all these and its been just to difficult to hit i quit) then i was usuallu go back to the left arm and trace the same one on my left hand (between my index and middle finger) and will find a good spot somewhere on my forearm.

if you cant hit after all these the stars are not aligned right and god hates you.

i know if seems like im lying but i promise, im just a newbie 8)

Subutex wrist shot (IV)

Ive had an absess once, and god knows how many time ive missed and got a knot, but today i shot in the side of my wrist in a large vein and what looks 2b a bruise formed on the bottom of my wrist about 2 inches from the inj. site. Should i b concerned?

Just a bruise? Nothing to be concerned about IMO. Inflammation, pain, and swelling are the worst symptoms.

You can use a heat compress if you are not 100% sure if it's just a bruise or not.

Also, we have a mega thread specifically for IV complications and questions. :) I'll merge your post in there.

Its not rly a bruise, it looks like a hickey to be comp. honest. I jus thout it was weird i shot up in one place and another is where the splotch appeared. And i didnt miss. Sry about posting outside the thread, im on my phone and the browser sucks.

Extreme histamine reaction? I'm freaked out, been shooting up for 10 years, a dirty hit, missed shot, some small splotches and a lump or bruise has been the worst i've suffered and now tonight was my first time with shooting two specific different substances, neither of which is meant to be injected. The second of which was morphine sulphate. Anyways my arm and wrist are swollen and splotchy to the point that its uncomfortable to rotate my wrist/hand. As soon as I was almost done pushing the plunger, it itched. Then my chest got hot and my heart pounded, and it was hard to breathe for a few seconds. Then my hand/arm got splotchy, and then it swelled up. I don't think it was an od at all, I think it was an allergic reaction and that this with my arm could be a histamine reaction. The splotches are actually gone now, but its still swollen. I took an ibuprofen 800 and put ice on it. Can a histamine reaction cause swelling? Does this sound like an allergic/histamine reaction?

And I knew it was stupid when I did it but I've been sick for 6 days.

And please (cane2theleft especially) spare me the lecture cause this will NEVER happen again I'll not be taking stupid fuckin chances like this again! I honestly just need some advice

Sounds like either a histamine reaction (morphine is a major cause of this) or you hit an artery..

If it's an artery, keep a close eye on it if the swelling dont go down or gets worse you may have to go to the ER. Not worth getting necrosis and losing an arm or hand.

This will be a fairly odd question, but i was cooking up a shot and accidentally got some safflower oil in the cooker, i hadnt even realized it until i began sucking the melted down heroin into my syringe that i realized there was oil in my shot.

Did I just completely fuck up my shot? Or is it safe to inject my shot after doing my best at filtering it out?

I can't answer your specific question, but I think a fair rule of thumb when injecting is if something makes you question the safety of a shot, then don't do it - it's not worth the money in that spoon to risk killing yourself.

When in doubt, toss it out!

Let's chat about water

I keep a bottle of distilled water from the drugstore as my injection water (have yet to run across "injection water). Should I keep the bottle in the fridge or is the proverbial "cool, dry place" (i.e. Under the sink) ok?

And let's assume I can't find "water for injection" anywhere - are there ways to better purify the bottle of distilled water I'm using?

I'm glad you asked because indeed there are better ways!

Bacteriostatic water, purchased or made containing .9% benzyl alcohol. It will act as a preservative and stop bacteria from growing in the solution for up to 28 days.

It sounds to me like an allergic/ hypersensitivity reaction. In that situation I might try an antihistamine, I wouldn't think there's any risk in that. Although u wrote this yesterday, if it's still itchy or rash-y that might be helpful. Keep an eye on it though and if it gets worse or takes way too long to get better maybe check with a doctor or a pharmacist.

When you inject a crushed up tablet, the particles can provoke the body to initiate a hypersensitivity reaction in order to enclose and remove the foreign body from the body. It is so important to filter really thoroughly especially when injecting pills. After you have removed all visible fine particles, it is important to use a wheel/micron filter to remove invisible particles but, most of all, bacteria. Prefiltering is important or particles will block the wheel filter. A 5 micron filter works for fine particles (and blood cells!) whereas for bacteria u really need a 0.2 micron (will block up w/ fine particles). I have used 0.45 micron filters but it would let a dirty hit through occasionally.

IMHO try to avoid or minimize hitting up tablets if possible, as the particles n other substances can cause problems but if u do, make sure u filter really well (micron filter) and u will be amazed how much that will limit complications.

DISCLAIMER: I am a reg. nurse but I am not a qualified doctor so the above is a suggestion of what I would do. If in doubt check with a doctor.

EDIT: Pls don't think I'm lecturing u cos I'm not. idk how you filter ur stuff but I'm just sharing the best way I know.

I don't remember what website but i once found multi stage micron filters that had like 3 different sizes from .45 down to .2 all in one micron filter in order to stop the solution from clogging up as easily. They were definitely a bit more expensive than single size filters but would be worth it for pill shooters.

As a rule of thumb, heat speeds up bacterial replication and growth so ur probably right to keep it in the fridge or a cool dry place. Some bacteria like oxygen too so if possible try to remove as much air from the storage container. Obviously if it's a glass bottle u can't but if you fill up a portable container like a syringe or small bottle, it might be something to consider.

Personally, I sterilize my water by putting it through a 0.2 micron filter right before I use it and straight into a syringe. They have smaller filters too, if it's a 1 ml needle kind of shot.

Do you rely on chemists or do you have a needle exchange handy? Sterile water is free where I live.

Where do others get bacteriostatic water from as I haven't seen that?

Wow that's heaps cool. I don't know if 0.45 is big enough for particles, depends on the particles and how much ur putting through. Once they block u can keep pushing through but only drip drip drip for another ml or two, I find. I don't filter pills but sometimes I will filter blood out of a methadone shot if more than a couple of hours has passed and I need bigger than 0.45 for that (I use a 5.0). I mean any size filter will filter anything but u might only get a ml through!
